Synapse 4 is backwards compatible with Synapse 3 devices, so most Razer gear from recent years appears in the Windows list.

How to install Razer Synapse on Windows 11 and 10
Plug in your Razer device first, and keep the PC online. Setup asks for a Razer ID, so create one at sign-in if you do not have it.
- Open the Razer Synapse 4 page and click Download for Windows.
- Run the downloaded installer when the download finishes.
- Click Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Click CONTINUE to accept the Razer Software License Agreement.
- Leave Include RAZER CHROMA APP ticked if you want lighting effects, or clear it.
- Click INSTALL.
- Skip or accept any extra app suggestions that appear.
- Log in with your Razer ID to continue the installation.
- Wait for setup to finish. Razer Synapse 4 opens automatically and lists your connected devices.
Installing Synapse 4 removes Razer Synapse 3 from the PC. Its Profile Migration tool detects your Synapse 3 profiles, macros and Chroma effects and moves them across in one click.
Install Razer Synapse with winget
The Windows Package Manager lists it under Razer Inc. Use winget when you set up several PCs or prefer the command line.
- Right-click Start and select Terminal (Admin) on Windows 11, or Windows PowerShell (Admin) on Windows 10.
- Click Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Run winget show –id RazerInc.RazerInstaller.Synapse4 -e to confirm the publisher reads Razer Inc.
- Run winget install –id RazerInc.RazerInstaller.Synapse4 -e .
- Type Y if winget asks you to accept the source agreements.
- Finish the Razer installer when its window opens, then log in with your Razer ID.
The winget package fetches Razer’s own installer from Razer’s download server, so the Razer ID sign-in still applies.
Which Razer Synapse download do you need for your Mac?
Razer Synapse for Mac is a separate app from the Windows version. It covers device settings, custom profiles that switch per game or app, macros, Cloud Sync with your Razer ID, and Chroma lighting.

The Mac release is labelled Preview, so some devices and features from the Windows app are not there yet.
Should you install Razer Synapse 4 or keep Synapse 3?
Razer’s download page now offers only Synapse 4 for Windows. Synapse 3 no longer appears as a download choice there.
Install Razer Synapse 4. Razer says Synapse 4 is backwards compatible with Synapse 3 devices and runs up to 30% faster in its own testing. A multi-threaded design means installing one device’s module does not interrupt devices already in use. The Profile Migration tool brings Synapse 3 profiles, macros and Chroma effects across, and the installer removes Synapse 3 for you.
Is Razer Synapse free?
Razer lists no price for Synapse on Windows or Mac. The only requirement is a free Razer ID.
Yes. Razer Synapse is free on Windows and Mac. Razer offers Synapse 4, the Windows beta and Razer Synapse for Mac as free downloads from razer.com. You pay for Razer hardware, not for the software that configures it. A site selling a Synapse licence, a premium unlock or a cracked copy is not Razer, and its file is not Razer’s installer.
Fix Razer Synapse not installing or not starting
Match the symptom, then work through the fix in order. Razer’s own support pages list the same causes.
The installer will not run on your PC
Synapse 4 needs 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11 on an x86-64 processor.
- Open Settings > System > About.
- Read System type and confirm it says 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor.
- Update Windows from Settings > Windows Update and run the installer again.
Razer Synapse crashes or fails to start
Razer names admin restrictions, firewall blocks, corrupted files and sign-in problems as the causes.
- Right-click the Razer Synapse icon in the system tray, click Log In, and sign in with your Razer ID.
- Right-click Razer Synapse and choose Run as administrator.
- Open your antivirus settings and make sure RazerAppEngine is not blocked.
- Open Task Manager and check that RazerAppEngine is not stuck at 0% CPU under Processes.
- Do a clean reinstall using the uninstall steps below if the problem continues.
Synapse does not detect your Razer device
The device is unsupported, Synapse is running in compatibility mode, or an outdated Riot Vanguard (version 1.7.0.27) blocks Razer drivers.
- Check the Synapse 4 supported devices list for your model.
- Right-click the Synapse shortcut, select Properties > Compatibility, and clear Run this program in compatibility mode.
- Update Riot Vanguard if you play Riot games, then restart the PC and reopen Synapse.
Synapse will not open on your Mac
The Mac app is not signed in, or RazerAppEngine has stalled.
- Open Launchpad, type Razer, and click the app.
- Click LOG IN and enter your Razer ID email and password.
- Press Command + Space, open Activity Monitor, and check the CPU use of RazerAppEngine.
- Uninstall and reinstall Razer Synapse for Mac if it still shows no activity.
How to uninstall Razer Synapse on Windows
Sign in with your Razer ID before removing Synapse, so your profiles stay in the cloud. Without a Razer ID, export your profiles first.
- Right-click the Razer Synapse 4 icon in the system tray and select Exit All Apps.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Type Razer in the search box.
- Click the … menu next to the Razer entry and select Uninstall.
- Click Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- In the RAZER GAMING SOFTWARE window, click the … menu on the INSTALLED APPS tab and click Uninstall All.
- Click UNINSTALL to confirm, then close the window when it finishes.
- Restart the PC before installing Synapse again.
For a clean reinstall, Razer also recommends running the Windows System File Checker and installing pending Windows updates before you download Synapse 4 again.
Which Razer app should you use instead of Synapse 4?
