How to Disable Opera browser’s Automatic Video Pop out feature

Last updated on January 26, 2022 By Venkat

Recently, Opera browser introduced two new features named Automatic Video Pop out and Meme generator. While Opera-supported Video pop out for a long time, the new feature available in version 83 pops out video automatically when the user switches to the next tab. If you found the feature annoying, here is how you can disable it.

Opera browser allows messaging to friends right from the sidebar with various social networks such as Twitter, Facebook Messenger, Whatsapp, Instagram, and Telegram integrated into it.

The sidebar also includes special features such as Player, Crypto wallet, and My flow.

Opera comes with a native ad blocker, free Virtual Private Network (VPN) and it protects you against cryptocurrency mining.

The Workspace feature makes organizing tabs into groups easier.

Video Pop out

If you’re a multi-tasker who watches videos while working, the video pop-out feature of Opera displays video in a pop-out window.

You can move the video anywhere on the screen, even outside the browser. You can resize the player window and return to the original video tab anytime.

Note: Video pop out known as Picture in Picture mode in Chrome, Firefox, and Microsoft Edge browsers.

Automatic Video pop out

Based on Video pop out, Opera software recently introduced the ability to detach video conferencing tabs. The company later made the automatic videoconferencing pop-out feature available.

Now, with Opera 83, the company added Automatic Video pop out. Here is how the feature works:

  1. You visit a site like Youtube and start a video
  2. While the video is playing, you navigate to the next tab, the video then is displayed in a pop-out window automatically.
  3. When you come to the original tab, the video gets restored and the floating window disappears.

Everybody may not like this, if you’re one of them, here is how you can turn it off

Disable Automatic Video Pop Out in Opera browser

  1. Open Opera browser
  2. Click on the menu icon and select Settings (Alt+P)
  3. In the search settings box on top, type ” video pop out”
  4. In the results displayed, toggle “Automatically pop out videos when possible” switch to turn off.
