Microsoft OneDrive‘s web version can now be installed in Chrome, Micorsoft Edge as Progressive Web App. The PWA, once added, opens itself in a standalone window and works like in a web browser, it can be pinned to the taskbar for quick launch next time. The OneDrive PWA can be used on a PC, Mac, or Chromebook.
After Outlook, Microsoft has made its Cloud Storage service, Microsoft OneDrive as PWA.
Microsoft OneDrive is a PWA now
- Once installed, OneDrive PWA opens in a standalone window without an address bar and tabs.
- The Edge web app menu shows Permissions and Privacy info about the number of Cookies in use, Tracking Prevention status, and mode.
- This web App like other supports extensions.
Remarks:
A proper PWA works offline and supports push notifications, but, this PWA could be basically the OneDrive website running in the Edge browser window. So you can continue to visit the onedrive.live.com page in the browser for file sharing needs if you think this is unnecessary.
But, Microsoft and Google are working to bring awesome features for PWAs in Windows. For instance, Chromium PWAs to get support for customizable title bars and become more native.

- You can pin the OneDrive web app to the taskbar and start menu. You can also allow it to create a desktop shortcut and autorun at Windows logon.
Note: Firefox doesn’t support Progressive Web Apps natively, you can install this extension and you’re good to use OneDrive as PWA in Firefox.
