Recently we reported Microsoft made it difficult to download Edge in Windows 10 with Firefox or Chrome quite difficult. With Windows 10 October 2020 Update version 20H2 available, you don’t need to install it as it comes with it by default and the classic edge will be forbidden. If you’ve upgraded to 20H2, you may not able to reinstall it if you’ve uninstalled it. We’ve faced this with Edge and here’s how we fixed the error and installed Edge successfully again.
How to download Microsoft Edge in Windows 10
- Visit Edge download page
- Click on the “Try now” button
- Choose Microsoft Edge and click “open link”
- Click Download, run the Edge setup file, and wait for the installation to finish.
You may receive the following error from the Edge installer
“Installation failed due to unspecified error. If Microsoft is currently running, please close it and try again.”
You may have seen this error with Chrome in the past. Chromium Edge too triggering this now.

Even if you’ve installed Edge manually in this case. You can’t uninstall it later via Control Panel or Settings app.
Control Panel doesn’t offer an uninstall option, it offers “Repair” only while Uninstall will be grayed out in Settings App.
