Edge 86 update hasn’t gone well for users. Updating to the latest version resulted in Edge forgetting website logins and we believe, the update installed Office PWAs without user knowledge. Now another issue, this time macOS users affected as they’re receiving ” A Keychain cannot be found to store” error in Edge whenever they open a new tab. Microsoft for the first time after reports said they’re investigating the issue. Meanwhile, if you’re affected there is a workaround available to disable the Keychain error dialog forever.
What you need to know:
- Edge for Mac users hit with “a Keychain not found” error
- Microsoft is aware of the issue
- Edge Stable affected.

The issue reported by users a few hours back on the Edge community forum and on Reddit. The error reported before as well, but not acknowledged by the Edge team.
The error dialog offers to Cancel and “Reset to defaults”. Selecting the latter causes cookies to clear and leaves you logged into Microsoft Account with a “not syncing” issue.
Fix Edge’s “A Keychain cannot be found to Store” issue on macOS
- Right-click on the Edge logo in the dock
- Select “Force quit” and click the “Cancel” button in Keychain not found error dialog
- Your saved password and Edge Settings will be preserved.
Microsoft says they made a change to address this sometime back but assures, they’ll investigate and resolve the issue.
“We recently started to receive reports from macOS users saying they saw an error, “A keychain not found”, after updating Microsoft Edge. This error was not common but could be alarming since it was unexpected. A few weeks ago, we deployed a change that we believe resolved the issue.” Edge Program and Community Manager Fawkes said.
“We appreciate your patience while we investigate and work to get this resolved.” Fawkes further added.
