If you sign in to Microsoft Edge using your Microsoft Account and sync information to all your devices, the information stored on Microsoft servers can now be cleared when you use the “Reset Sync” Setting offered in the Edge browser.
Microsoft Edge Web browser allows you to sync history, passwords, favorites, and other browser data across your signed-in devices.
As of now, Edge can sync the following data.
- personal info such as Addresses and other autofill data
- open tabs
Edge allows you to quickly toggle Sync off and on with the “Turn off Sync” option in Profiles Settings.
To use this, visit Settings and more > Settings > Profiles > Sync > Turn off Sync.
If you’ve problems with Syncing data to Edge on other devices, you can fix the issue by deleting synced data in Microsoft Cloud, here is how you can do that.
Enable the ‘Reset Sync’ option in the Microsoft Edge browser
- Visit edge://flags page
- Search for “Enable reset sync”
- Click on the dropdown arrow and select “Enabled”
- Restart the browser.
Note: The feature is available out of the box and the flag enabling is no longer required in latest Edge versions.
How to reset Edge Sync data
- Click on Settings and more icon
- Select Settings
- Visit Profiles > Sync,
- Scroll down to the Reset Sync section at the bottom, click on the “Reset Sync” button
- Click “Reset‘.
Doing the above deletes the Edge Sync data from Microsoft servers and stops sync and signs you out of all your devices. You may need to turn on Sync for Edge again on all your devices.
Rest assured, your sync data will stay safe locally, but information on the cloud will be erased.
If you don’t uncheck “Resume sync after resetting Sync”, the Sync will be automatically turned on for you after Reset.
