You can run Google Play apps on a Windows PC and reach the Play Store from any Mac browser. This guide covers the official routes Google supports for each.
Two official routes do work on a computer. The Play Store website installs apps onto any Android device signed in to your account, and Google Play Games on PC plays Android games on Windows from a 40.6 MB installer.
This guide covers which route fits your machine, the official Google links, installing and verifying the PC client, what a Mac gets, and fixes for failed installs.

Which Google Play Store download do you need?
Match your device below. Most rows need no download at all.
| Your device | What to use | Size |
|---|---|---|
| Android phone or tablet | Nothing. It is already installed | None |
| Chromebook that supports Android apps | Nothing. Turn on Google Play in Settings | None |
| Windows 11 or Windows 10 PC, for games | Install-GooglePlayGames.exe | 40.6 MB |
| Windows PC or Mac, to buy apps for a phone | The Play Store website | None |
| Mac, to run Android apps on the Mac itself | No Google client exists for macOS | None |
| Windows 11 with Windows Subsystem for Android | Retired on 5 March 2025 | None |
| Android device with no Play Store icon | Check the Play Protect certification status | None |
That 40.6 MB file installs Google Play Games on PC. It is not the Play Store app.
Download Google Play software from the official Google sources
Google distributes Play software from two hosts, and nothing else is Google’s build.
- Google Play Store on the web — browse, buy and install to any device on your account
- Google Play Games on PC — the only Windows client Google publishes
- Install-GooglePlayGames.exe — 40.6 MB · signed by Google LLC
- Find the Google Play Store app — Google’s own page, and it offers no download
Certification is what puts the store on a device. Google’s wording is blunt: only Play Protect certified devices are eligible to include Google apps, like the Google Play Store app.
Treat any site offering a Play Store EXE as a different program with a borrowed name, and keep Google Play Protect switched on.
Check the Google Play Store system requirements
The Windows figures below belong to Google Play Games on PC.

| Supported platforms | Android devices that support Google Play, and some Chromebooks |
| Windows client | Google Play Games on PC 26.8.705.0 |
| Windows installer | Install-GooglePlayGames.exe, 42,538,096 bytes (40.6 MB) |

Google’s recommended column changes two lines: a gaming-class GPU, like the Nvidia GeForce MX450, and 8 logical cores. It also wants a personal Google Account and the SSD as the main drive.
How to install Google Play Games on Windows 11 and 10
Sign in to a Windows admin account first. This is the only Google-supplied way to run Play games on a PC.
- Open play.google.com/googleplaygames in your browser.
- Click Download and save Install-GooglePlayGames.exe.
- Open the downloaded file.
- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Follow the on-screen instructions; the install takes a few minutes.
- Turn on Windows Hypervisor Platform if the installer asks, then restart the PC.
- Sign in with the same Google Account you use on your phone.
- Install one game to confirm the platform runs.
If the PC misses a minimum requirement, the installer names the item and stops.
Many titles also need CPU virtualization switched on in the firmware. Microsoft documents that switch in Enable virtualization on Windows.
How to install Play Store apps from a PC or Mac browser
The website pushes an app to any device signed in to the same Google Account.
- Open play.google.com and sign in with your Google Account.
- Search for the app, or browse to its listing.
- Select the item to open its details page.
- Click Install.
- Choose the target device from the dropdown.
- Click Install again to confirm.
- Unlock the device and let the download start on its own.
Google Play shows whether an item is available for some, none or all of your devices. Purchases do not move between accounts.
The Windows tab on the same site lists the games that run through Google Play Games on PC.
How to verify the Google Play Games installer is genuine
The Windows installer is signed. The check takes about ten seconds.
- Right-click Install-GooglePlayGames.exe and select Properties.
- Open the Digital Signatures tab.
- Select the signature in the list and click Details.
- Confirm the signer name reads Google LLC.
- Click View Certificate and confirm the issuer is DigiCert Trusted G4 Code Signing RSA4096 SHA384 2021 CA1.
- Open the General tab and compare the size with 42,538,096 bytes.
The current file is signed by CN=Google LLC, O=Google LLC, L=Mountain View, S=California, C=US. No Digital Signatures tab means the file did not come from Google.
Which Google Play Store download do you need for your Mac?
None. Google publishes neither the Play Store nor Google Play Games for macOS.
| What you want to do on a Mac | How | Works |
|---|---|---|
| Browse and search the store | play.google.com in Safari or Chrome | Yes |
| Install an app onto your Android phone | Click Install, then pick the device | Yes |
| Run an Android game on the Mac itself | Google Play Games on PC is Windows only | No |
| Install the Play Store app on macOS | Google publishes no macOS release | No |
A Chromebook that supports Android apps is the only laptop Google puts the real Play Store on.
Is Google Play Store free?
Yes, and so is Google Play Games on PC. Google charges for apps, subscriptions and in-app items, never for the store or the PC client. The web store at play.google.com costs nothing to use, and the 40.6 MB Windows installer costs nothing to download. Any page selling a Play Store setup file or a licence key is selling something Google does not publish.
How to check your Google Play Games version and update it
The PC client updates itself, and it also updates on demand from the taskbar.
- Right-click Google Play Games on PC in the notification area of the taskbar.
- Click Check for updates.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
- If the update fails, uninstall the app through Apps & features.
- Download the installer again from play.google.com/googleplaygames.
- Run it and sign back in with the same Google Account.
The installer Google serves today reports 26.8.705.0 in its file properties. On Android there is nothing to update by hand; the store refreshes through Google Play services.
What Google Play Games on PC can run
Every game in the PC catalogue carries a badge on its details page.
| Badge | What it means | Where the game appears |
|---|---|---|
| Optimized | The developer built it for Windows | Search, catalogue and the web listing |
| Playable | Google tested it: stable, 30 fps or higher, mouse or keyboard | Search, catalogue and the web listing |
| Untested | Google has not tested it on PC | Name search inside the app only |
| Unsupported | Known technical issues; expect crashes or sign-in errors | Nowhere in the catalogue |
| Not available | Not offered on PC, or not for your computer | Nowhere on PC |
The catalogue is games. Non-game Android apps are not part of Google Play Games on PC.
Fix Google Play Store and Play Games problems on Windows and Android
The Windows installer stops partway
The PC misses a minimum requirement, and the installer names it.
- Free at least 10 GB on the C: drive, which clears error NU80070424.
- Update Windows and try again for NU8001008, NU80040811 and NUFFFFFFFF.
- Sign in to an account with administrator rights for NU80070005 and NU80070542.
- Restart the PC and rerun the installer for 10901, 99999 and NC99999.
- Download a fresh copy for the NU80040801 family, which points at the network.
Games will not start after the install finishes
Windows Hypervisor Platform or CPU virtualization is switched off.
- Turn on Windows Hypervisor Platform when prompted, then restart the PC.
- Turn on CPU virtualization in the firmware settings.
- Update the graphics driver from the GPU maker.
- Right-click the taskbar icon, click Exit, then reopen the app.
The Play Store icon is missing on your Android phone
It ships with the device, so a missing icon means it is hidden, turned off or uncertified.
- Open Google Play, tap the profile icon, then Manage apps & device.
- Open Manage, select Google Play Store and tap Enable.
- Turn the device off and on again, then look for the app.
- Check the Play Protect certification status, then contact the carrier or manufacturer.
The Play Store will not open, load or finish a download
A weak connection, a full device or a stale cache.
- Connect to a Wi-Fi network with a strong signal.
- Open Settings > Storage and free space; trouble starts below 1 GB.
- Open Settings > System > Date & time and turn on Set time automatically.
- Open Settings > Apps & notifications > See all apps and tap Google Play Store.
- Open Storage, tap Clear Cache, then Clear data, and repeat for Google Play services.
A Chromebook has no Play Store
Only some Chromebooks support Android apps.
- Select the time at the bottom right, then Settings.
- Select Apps, then Manage Google Play preferences, then More.
- Accept the Terms of Service to finish setup.
- Update ChromeOS if Manage Google Play preferences is absent; on a school or work device, ask the administrator.
How to uninstall Google Play Games on PC
Google’s own troubleshooting points at the Windows app list.
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Select Apps, then Installed apps.
- Find Google Play Games on PC and select the three dots beside it.
- Select Uninstall, then Uninstall again to confirm.
- Restart the PC so the platform files are released.
- Reinstall from play.google.com/googleplaygames if the goal was a repair.
The Play Store on a phone works differently. Google documents turning a preinstalled app off and back on in Reinstall & re-enable apps, not deleting it.
What to use instead of a Google Play Store download
| Option | What it is | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Play Store website | The store itself in any desktop browser | Buying apps and sending them to a phone |
| Google Play Games on PC | Google’s Windows games client, 40.6 MB | Android games with a keyboard and mouse |
| Chromebook | ChromeOS laptops that include the Play Store | Android apps on a laptop, officially |
| Windows Subsystem for Android | Left the Microsoft Store on 5 March 2025 | Nothing; it carried the Amazon Appstore |

Frequently asked questions
Is there a Google Play Store download for PC?
No. Google publishes no Play Store installer for Windows or macOS. The store ships with Android devices that support Google Play, and with some Chromebooks. On a PC, use the Play Store website.
Is the Google Play Store free?
Yes, and so is Google Play Games on PC. Google charges for apps, subscriptions and in-app items, never for the store. Any site selling a Play Store licence key is selling something else.
What is the official Google Play Store download page?
play.google.com is the store itself, and it works in any desktop browser. Google’s only Windows client, Google Play Games on PC, comes from play.google.com/googleplaygames. Google’s help page links neither an APK nor an EXE.
Does the Google Play Store work on Windows 11?
Not as an app. Google Play Games on PC runs on Windows 10 version 2004 and later, which covers Windows 11, and plays games from Google Play. The website works in any browser.
How big is the Google Play Games download?
Install-GooglePlayGames.exe is 42,538,096 bytes, or 40.6 MB. That file is only the downloader. Google requires an SSD with 10 GB free, because the platform arrives during setup.
Is there a Google Play Store offline installer?
No, and there is no online one either. Google ships no Play Store setup file for Windows or macOS. The Google Play Games installer fetches its platform during setup, so it needs an internet connection.
Is there a Google Play Store for Mac?
No. Google lists Windows 10 version 2004 as the only supported system for Google Play Games on PC, and publishes no Play Store client for macOS. Use play.google.com in a browser instead.
Is Google Play Games on PC 64-bit or ARM64?
The installer is 64-bit x64 only. Its PE header carries machine type 0x8664, and Google offers no 32-bit or ARM64 build. Hardware virtualization also has to be turned on.
Is it safe to download a Google Play Store APK for Windows?
An APK does not run on Windows at all, so any Windows file offered as the Play Store is something else. Google states that only Play Protect certified devices are eligible to include Google apps.
Which Google Play Games version is current?
The installer Google serves reports version 26.8.705.0 in its file properties, dated 2 September 2026. The app also updates itself: right-click its taskbar icon and click Check for updates.
Why will Google Play Games not install on my PC?
The installer stops when the PC misses a minimum requirement, and it names the item. The usual causes are less than 10 GB free on the C: drive, an old Windows build, no administrator rights, and virtualization switched off.
