Mozilla Firefox gets Windows 11 Style Scrollbars

Windows 11 was available for more than two months. The inbox Apps such as Photos, Paint, Notepad, etc running on it received the new design. When comes to web browsers, Microsoft Edge has got Windows 11 look and feel. Google Chrome also made its menus look with rounded corners to match the new Windows OS, its Firefox turn now. Mozilla has redesigned the browser scrollbars for Windows 11 Style and other platforms also in Firefox 97.

The Scrollbar in some Windows 11 Apps look, thin and sleek. You can notice this with File Explorer, Settings app, and other parts of OS.

As said above, Microsoft Edge received Windows 11 fluent design, rounded corners, and mica effect. Microsoft has enabled modern Overlay Scrollbars in Edge browser as well.

It is worth noting Microsoft and Google working together for Modern scrollbars in the Chromium browser on the Windows platform. So it’s not surprising, Chrome gets these visual changes also.

Firefox 97 features Windows 11 Scrollbar

Mozilla may not completely overhaul its browser for Windows 11. The company released the Firefox app to Microsoft Store for download. The app gets updated automatically without requiring user intervention.

Firefox already supports Snip Layouts, now sports a new Windows 11 Scrollbar design in Nightly.

Actually, the organization has refactored Scrollbars for Firefox on all platforms such as Android, Linux, Windows11, Windows 10, and Mac.

The new feature is applied behind a pref and you can see the change straight away with Scrollbar on websites when using Firefox 97 on Windows 11.

The Pref widget.non-native-theme.scrollbar.style has current options:

‘0’: Default Platform scrollbar style
‘1’: macOs scrollbars
‘2’: GTK Scrollbars
‘3’:Android Scrollbars
‘4’: Windows 10 scrollbars
‘5’: Windows 11 scrollbars

You can have fun by changing the pref with the above values. You can set Android, Mac, and GTK Scrollbars for Firefox on Windows.

As the new Scrollbar code hasn’t been made into Firefox stable, creating and setting the pref value to ‘5’ or ‘0’ doesn’t work as of now.

Currently, Mozilla is targetting Windows 11 Scrollbars for Firefox in version 97.

Firefox 97 is scheduled to release on Feb 8, 2022.
