Firefox browser warns you when you try to close the browser with multiple tabs open. This helps to avoid the loss of tabs when you accidentally click on the close button. Mozilla realized this may be “unwelcome friction” and is disabling this behavior by default from Firefox 94 onwards on Windows. This doesn’t affect Firefox running on Mac and Linux.
If you don’t want Firefox to caution you like this as you may lose your work, you can uncheck the “confirm before closing multiple tabs” checkbox and click on the Close tabs button in the dialog.
Next time, when you press the close button in the browser window, you won’t be prompted.
To undo uncheck in option in dialog,
Head to Settings > General > Tabs, select ” Confirm before closing multiple tabs”.
As stated above, Mozilla feels close or Exit actions you perform using a menu or button were intentional and the messages may be unnecessary and “unwelcome friction”.
Starting Firefox version 94, Firefox browser no longer warns when you try to close the browser with multiple tabs open, this change has been made to the Windows version, here is how you can re-enable the closing tabs prompt again.
Enable or disable Close tabs warning in Firefox 94 or later
- Click the menu button, select Settings
- In General> Tabs,
- Check the box for “Confirm before closing multiple tabs“
Another thing to ponder with the Firefox update:
After updating to Firefox 94, Firefox may not restore the tabs from the previous session. To work around this, click on the menu and select History, and click “restore previous session”.
If Restore Previous session menu item is not avialable, utilize “Recently closed tabs” and “Recently closed Windows” options.
In other news related to Firefox version 94, Mozilla to include new mono Chromatic themes called Colorways and offers a new about:unloads page to allow the user to manually unload tabs.
Closing words:
This may be a small change, but losing your tabs because of accidental closing is unacceptable, users should be aware of this. Hope you find this article helpful. Firefox 94 is scheduled to release on November 02, 2021.
