In addition to light and dark themes, Microsoft Edge lets you customize the browser with 14 other built-in themes. You can also change the Edge look by getting themes from Edge Add-ons Store. The new Edge’s InPrivate browsing Mode isn’t completely dark unless you turn on dark mode in Windows or Mac. The menus still appear white when you visit the page. This to change, after Chrome.
InPrivate browsing Mode in new Microsoft Edge Chromium
Like many popular browsers. Microsoft Edge allows browsing in Private mode.
InPrivate Mode is not anonymous browsing, but it clears your browsing history, cookies, passwords, and other data when you close all InPrivate Windows.
The Collections, favorites, and downloads created will be kept, however.
Like Chrome Incognito mode, websites still track you in Edge’s InPrivate Mode. You can avoid this by turning on Strict Tracking Protection available.
Edge lets you search InPrivate mode with Bing with a dedicated search box.
Edge assures the information that identifies you will be removed when you submit a search query through Bing InPrivate Search.
Recently we reported Google Chrome added true dark mode for InCognito mode behind a flag.
The new feature is now available in Edge also as an experimental feature.

Ensure you’re using the latest Edge Canary version 92 0r later on Mac, Windows, and Linux
- Visit edge://flags/#inherit-native-theme-from-parent-widget
- Select Enabled and restart the browser.
- Click on Settings and more
- Select” New InPrivate window“
Click on the three-dot icon and right-click on-page to notice the menus appear as dark.
“When enabled, secondary UI like menu, dialog, etc would be open in dark mode when InPrivate mode is open”, the “Allow widgets to inherit native theme from its parent widget” flag description says.
You can see the difference between Edge InPrivate browsing Mode before and after applying the change in the above screenshots.
Bonus tip:
In case you don’t know, similar to Chrome, Microsoft Edge allows you to create a desktop shortcut for InPrivate Mode.
This requires you to enable the “Turn on desktop InPrivate Shortcut” flag and restart the Edge browser.
After that, you need to open a new InPrivate window and select an option in the InPrivate menu icon on the toolbar.
