Microsoft Edge adds mini Context menu for PDFs

As of now, Microsoft Edge is overloaded with features when compared with Chrome and it’s just completed one year only. so more to come. Microsoft is working to add all announced PDF Roadmap features to Edge. The Edge is almost got Edge Legacy PDF features, to the latest, Edge has got a mini menu that offers quick options to copy, highlight and add a comment to a selected text in PDF.

What you need to know:

  • In addition to the context menu available for text selection, Microsoft is offering a mini context menu
  • The menu also contains the option to open the main context menu
  • There is a setting available to control the feature

When you right-click on selected Text in PDF in Microsoft Edge, the browser presents you the following options

Now, Edge presents a small menu when you hover selected Text to copy, Highlight and Add a comment in no time. Microsoft is calling this a “mini Context menu, here is how to enable or disable it.

Enable or disable Mini context menu for PDF files in new Microsoft Edge

  1. Launch Edge browser
  2. Click on the three-dot menu, select Settings
  3. Appearance > Context menus
  4. Enable “show mini menu when selecting text in PDFs

Using the mini context menu:

  1. Load a PDF file from the Web or local drive
  2. Select a word or some text, hover over with mouse to notice to the tiny menu.

If you don’t want Edge to show that whenever you hover over selected text, turn off show mini menu setting in Appearance.

Note: The feature is currently available in Edge 90 Canary.
