Prevent Redirection of Sites from Internet Explorer to Microsoft Edge

Microsoft has integrated Internet Explorer mode into Microsoft Edge and made it available for users recently with Edge 85. The company also announced a timeline to end support for Internet Explorer and Edge Legacy. As of now, Microsoft has set up Internet Explorer 11 in Windows 10 to redirect to Edge for certain sites that no longer compatible.

In one way, this is is forcing users to new Edge, on the other side, letting organizations and users know you can browse these Legacy or incompatible sites without any issues in Modern Chromium Edge

As of now, certain sites automatically open in Edge from Internet Explorer. We can say LinkedIn which no longer supports IE as an example

  • Open Internet Explorer by typing “iexplore.exe” in the Run dialog
  • Visit Linkedin website
  • LinkedIn suddenly opens in Edge and you’ll be notified about this with a dialog that, you’re browsing the site in Edge browser. “The website doesn’t work with Internet Explorer. Microsoft recommends continuing in Microsoft Edge to experience better speed, performance and security”
