Like Classic Edge, new Microsoft Edge based on Chromium comes with Bing as the default Search Engine for the address bar and New Tab Page. While new Edge allows changing the search engine in the address bar from Bing to Google or other search providers as DuckDuckGo, Ecosia, and Yahoo, till now it hasn’t supported changing the Bing on the Search box in New Tab, Microsoft now allows to use address bar for search on the search box in New Tab Page.
For this, ensure you’re using latest Microsoft Edge Canary 82.0.453.0 or higher
1. Launch Edge, click on ellipsis menu icon > Settings > Privacy and Services > Address bar
2. For “Search on new tabs uses search box or address bar”, click on the Search box (Bing) and select Address bar, done.
If you now open the new tab and input the search term in the search bar, the focus will be shifted to the address bar, this search experience looks similar to Chrome where on its new tab page if you input something, you’ll be switched to address bar, Google is going to change this soon by making New Tab Page search box real to avoid a full-screen search issue with the omnibox.
