Microsoft has updated the InPrivate Browsing page in the new Edge browser with a new Bing Search box in the middle and reveals new details about how Bing search works in Private browsing mode for users.
The changes are currently available to some Edge Insiders in Dev and Canary channels via Control Feature Rollouts. Courtesy of images provided by Leo, you can see Microsoft copying the design of Firefox Private browsing page where Mozilla browser features Google search box at the center, here when it comes to Edge, Redmond software giant placed Bing Search box at the middle.
FYI, the search box which you notice in Firefox Private window is a fake box that jumps focus to address bar as you start to type. We’re not sure whether the Bing Search box is of similar type or a real one. New InPrivate browsing page highlights a crucial notes that “Prevents Microsoft Bing searches from being associated with you”, more information about this can be seen when you click more details button.
Tip: Balanced Tracking Protection is enabled by default in normal and private browsing modes, you can make your searches even more private by enabling Strict option for Tracking Prevention in Private mode.
The “More details” button provided at the bottom of the page reveals, Edge in InPrivate mode will strip off user account or device identifiable information from Bing search queries before sending data to servers. Microsoft assures no personalized content will be delivered to users in Bing based on private searches.
“When a search query is submitted using InPrivate Search, data that can be used to identify your account or device is removed, and no personalized content will appear on Bing”.
However, the page notes Bing will use your IP address to deliver local results. Microsoft also confirms searces you performed in private mode will never be saved to Bing search and “those searches will never appear in or influence your Bing search suggestions”.
