Microsoft reveals how they ship new features to Canary and Dev Microsoft Edge insider builds. Microsoft Edge based on Chromium is currently available via insider program and at the moment, its preview builds available in Canary and beta versions. Canary channel receives updates daily whereas Dev channel receives new features, improvements, and fixes once a week.

Though you’re already an Insider and running Canary version of Edge that on bleeding edge you may still not get the new features which Edge team makes them available to a small number of users running Canary and dev build, Microsoft calls the process of shipping new features as “Controlled Feature Roll-outs”  .

“To honor our commitment to building a great browser, we test our features changes for any regressions by gradually rolling out the feature to a small randomly selected subset of canary & dev channel, and then increase this subset as we are more confident about the feature,” says Microsoft in Edge forum.

“These controlled feature rollouts begin after completing standard quality, reliability and compliance test that determining that the feature is at ship quality”.

If the new feature isn’t available to you by default, Microsoft suggests to visit edge://flags page and enable the feature and restart the browser to test it.
