Avira Safe Shopping Plugin freezes Chrome

Report [1]: A user says on Reddit that ” Lately, Chrome has been just horrible. Open any page, try to scroll and it will deliver stuttering, unenjoyable and altogether an infuriating experience. ” and confirms uninstalling Avira made Chrome run smoothly again.
An affected user in another thread says his “Chrome freezes for every 5 seconds for 5-10 seconds” and says the issue has gone after getting rid of Avira. The same issue has been reported in several threads in the Chrome help forum.
Another victim of Avira, who found Avira. plugin.session (32) freezing Chrome, took to Avira answers and said “so there have been two posts about this before, but those have not been answered. Is there a way to disable Avira Safe Shopping service. It starts the process Avira.plugin.session (32bit) which says chrome to freeze every few seconds. For the past 2 days, I’ve been killing the process in task manager so I want to if its possible to disable”.
Someone did PSA at Reddit to say “uninstall Avira safe Shopping bollox from the apps menu in Windows 10 if you have stuttering”. All users who reported in the threads said uninstalling Avira made their Chrome run fine.
Google Chrome engineer, Peter Kasting said in another post to uninstall Avira if installed: “This — if you’re using Avira, uninstall (or not disable) it; Avira interferes with Chrome and we’ve many reports of freezing, stuttering, and lag over the last three days.”

- Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features
- Select Avira Safe Shopping
- Click Uninstall
How to Uninstall Avira free antivirus
1. Visit Control Panel > Programs > Programs and features
2. Uninstall Avira antivirus first, followed by Avira Safe Shopping, Avira phantom VPN, Avira Privacy Pal and last Avira (the Avira launcher or online essentials agent).
UPDATE: Avira said on twitter that there is a bug in their plugin that is causing the issue, they’re working on providing an update to fix the issue.

December 10, 2018 Update: Avira says in a tweet that they’ve released fix for the issue. If updates are enabled, fix will be installed automatically, a restart will bring stable browsing experience in Chrome with Avira installed. Here is what Avira support said ” We’ve released a bugfix for our Avira launcher which fix this issue. So after a reboot of your system should be everything back to stable Chrome.”
