Microsoft Edge Canary gets support for importing data from Legacy Edge

If you install the new Microsoft Edge in Windows 10, it will replace Legacy Edge and brings tabs you’ve set aside in it as favorites into the new Edge browser, these can be accessed anytime by visiting edge://favorites page. New Edge till now supports importing browser data from Google Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, and favorites or Bookmarks HTML file, with the latest Edge Canary Update, Microsoft has brought Edge Legacy browser data import support behind a flag, by enabling it, you can bring old Edge’s browsing data -cookies, passwords, extension, etc- and settings into new Edge, here is how that can be done.

Edge Canary 83.0.473.0

1. Ensure you’re using latest Microsoft Edge Canary 83.0.473.0 or later, visit edge://flags/#edge-legacy-import

2. Select Enabled and restart the browser

The flag available for Windows offers the following description:

“Adds an entry for “Microsoft Edge Legacy” to the list of browsers from which you can import your data. This allows you to import favorites, passwords, browsing history and more. To import data from another browser, go to edge://settings/importData -Windows”.

Importing Bookmarks and other data from Legacy Edge into new Edge

1. Launch Edge browser,

2.Click on Ellipsis menu > Settings > Profiles > Import browser data

3. Select Microsoft Edge Legacy and choose the items, and click Import.

5. New Edge informs you when the importing was finished.

By default, new Edge imports the following data from Legacy Edge

  • Favorites or bookmarks,
  • saved passwords,
  • search engines
  • Addresses
  • Payment info
  • Browsing history
  • Cookies
  • Homepage
  • Settings
  • Open tabs
  • Extensions

In case you don’t know, Firefox already supports importing browsing data from new Edge as well as classic Edge.
