Version 7.2.9 arrived on 17 September 2026 with x64, 32-bit and ARM64 Windows builds.

Which Telegram download do you need?

Open Settings > System > About on Windows and read the System type line. It tells you whether you have an x64, x86 or ARM-based processor.

Your computer Download Size
Windows 11 or 10, 64-bit, Intel or AMD Telegram for Windows x64 installer 53.1 MB
32-bit Windows 10, 8.1 or 7 Telegram for Windows 32-bit installer 47.9 MB
Windows 11 on ARM, such as a Snapdragon laptop td-setup-win-arm-7.2.9.exe on GitHub 49.5 MB

The ARM64 build is listed on the official GitHub release page rather than the main download page. It runs natively on ARM processors instead of through emulation.

How to install Telegram on Windows 11 and 10

The setup installs for your user account only, so it does not need administrator rights.

  1. Open desktop.telegram.org and click Get Telegram for Windows x64.
  2. Open your Downloads folder and double-click the td-setup-win-x64 file.
  3. Choose your setup language and click OK.
  4. Keep the default install folder and click Next.
  5. Leave the desktop shortcut option ticked if you want one, then click Next and Install.
  6. Keep Launch Telegram ticked and click Finish.
  7. Click Start Messaging in the app window.
  8. Enter your phone number, then type the login code Telegram sends to you.

Your cloud chats, contacts and media load right after sign-in.

Install Telegram from the Microsoft Store or with winget

The Store version updates through the Microsoft Store and works on PCs in S mode. Winget installs the same build as the website.

  1. Open the Telegram Desktop Store listing and click Get or Install.
  2. Wait for the Open button, then click it to launch Telegram.
  3. For winget, right-click Start and open Terminal.
  4. Run winget install –id Telegram.TelegramDesktop -e and accept the source agreement if asked.
  5. Run winget upgrade –id Telegram.TelegramDesktop -e later to update it.
  6. Open Telegram from the Start menu and sign in with your phone number.

Install one version only. The Store app and the website build are separate installs, and running both creates two Start menu entries.

How to verify the Telegram installer

Microsoft’s winget repository records a SHA256 hash for every official Telegram Desktop file. Compare your download against it.

  1. Open the winget manifest for Telegram Desktop.
  2. Find the InstallerSha256 line under the InstallerUrl that matches your file.
  3. Open PowerShell in your Downloads folder.
  4. Run Get-FileHash .\td-setup-win-x64-7.2.9.exe -Algorithm SHA256 , using your file name.
  5. Compare the Hash value with the manifest line. Any difference means the file is not genuine, so delete it.

Run Telegram without installing it

The portable build keeps the app and its data in one folder. Use it on a work PC without install rights or from a USB drive.

  4. Open the Telegram folder and double-click Telegram.exe.
  5. Sign in with your phone number and login code.
  6. Delete the whole folder when you no longer need it.

Which Telegram download do you need for your Mac?

Telegram offers two different Mac apps. Both are free and both need macOS 10.13 High Sierra or later.

You want Install Notes
An app that looks and behaves like other Mac apps Telegram on the Mac App Store Native macOS app, version 12.10
The same interface as Telegram on Windows Telegram Lite on the Mac App Store Telegram Desktop build, updates through the App Store
Telegram Desktop outside the App Store Telegram for macOS dmg 148 MB, updates itself

For the dmg, open the file, drag Telegram into Applications, and launch it from Launchpad.

Is Telegram free?

Telegram states that private messaging is free and will stay free, with no ads and no subscription fees. The desktop apps are open source under the GNU GPL v3.

Install the free official app. Pay only if you want Telegram Premium, and buy it inside the app. Premium is an optional subscription that unlocks extra features; you do not need it to chat, call or join channels. Any site selling a paid Telegram download, a crack or a Premium unlocker is not Telegram. The Telegram FAQ carries the official statement.

How to check your Telegram version and update it

  1. Open Telegram and click the menu icon in the top-left corner.
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the menu to read the Telegram Desktop version line.
  3. Open Settings > Advanced and turn on Update automatically if it is off.
  4. Click Check for updates to fetch a newer build now.
  5. Restart Telegram when it offers to install the update.
  6. For the Store version, open Microsoft Store > Library and click Get updates instead.
