You can install Reddit as a desktop app on Windows 11, Windows 10 and Mac in under a minute, straight from Edge, Chrome or Safari. It opens in its own window with its own taskbar or Dock icon.
The browser turns reddit.com into an installed app that shows up in the Start menu, in Alt+Tab and in Spotlight. Reddit itself is free, and Reddit Premium is an optional upgrade.
This guide covers which route fits each device, the official Reddit links, install steps for Edge, Chrome and Safari, the phone apps, and fixes for Reddit not loading.
Which Reddit download do you need?
Match your device to a row. The computer rows end at reddit.com, because that is where the desktop version runs.
| Your device | What to install | Size |
|---|---|---|
| Windows 11 or Windows 10 PC | reddit.com, installed as an app from Edge or Chrome | Nothing to download |
| Mac | reddit.com, added to the Dock from Safari or Chrome | Nothing to download |
| Android phone or tablet | Reddit on Google Play | Play states no size |
| iPhone or iPad | Reddit on the App Store | 446.3 MB |
The installed web app and the phone apps sign in to the same account, so subscriptions, saved posts and messages follow you.
Download Reddit from its official sources
Reddit, Inc. publishes the service at one web address and two phone stores. Everything else on a PC comes from the browser you already have.
- Reddit on the web — the page you install as a desktop app
- Reddit on Google Play — reddit Inc., updated 21 September 2026
- Reddit on the App Store — 446.3 MB · iOS 16.0 or later
- Reddit Premium — optional ad-free subscription
- Microsoft Edge — built into Windows 11 and Windows 10
- Google Chrome — installs web apps on Windows and Mac
A file named Reddit Setup or Reddit Desktop is a separate program by another publisher. Reddit, Inc. ships no Windows or macOS installer.
How to install Reddit on Windows 11 and 10 with Edge
Edge ships with Windows, so this route needs no extra download. The finished app appears in the Start menu and in Add or remove programs.
- Open Microsoft Edge and go to reddit.com.
- Sign in to your Reddit account, or skip this and browse signed out.
- Select Settings and more (the three dots at the top right).
- Select More tools, then Apps, then Install this site as an app.
- Keep the name Reddit and select Install.
- Tick Pin to Start in the install dialog to add a Start menu tile.
- Tick Auto-start on device login if Reddit should open when you sign in to Windows.
- Open Reddit from the Start menu and confirm the feed loads with no browser tabs around it.
The app’s own Settings and more menu carries Pin to taskbar and Pin to Start, if you skip them during setup.
Install Reddit with Chrome, since the Microsoft Store has none
A Microsoft Store and winget search for Reddit returns no package from Reddit, Inc. Chrome gives the same windowed app on Windows and Mac.
- Open Google Chrome and go to reddit.com.
- Select More, the three-dot button at the top right.
- Select Cast, save, and share, then Install page as app.
- Confirm the name and select Install.
- Right-click the new window’s taskbar icon and select Pin to taskbar.
- Launch it later from the Start menu, the desktop, or chrome://apps.
Store results named Reddit from other publishers are not Reddit, Inc. apps. Check the publisher line before selecting Get.
Which Reddit download do you need for your Mac?
The App Store listing covers iPhone, iPad and iMessage and names no Mac. On macOS, Safari or Chrome installs reddit.com instead.
| What you use | What to do | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
| Safari on macOS Sonoma 14 or later | Share, then Add to Dock, then Add | Apple |
| Chrome on macOS 13 Ventura or later | More, then Cast, save, and share, then Install page as app | |
| iPhone or iPad next to the Mac | Reddit on the App Store, 446.3 MB | Apple App Store |
Safari places the new icon in the Dock and in Spotlight’s Applications results, so it opens like any other Mac app.
Is Reddit free?
Yes. Reddit is free to download and use on every platform. Reddit Premium is the only paid part, and it is optional. It removes ads and adds premium avatar gear, access to r/lounge and custom app icons. It bills monthly or annually and renews automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends. No site should charge for a Reddit installer, because no desktop installer exists.
The Google Play listing carries Contains ads and In-app purchases labels. Both refer to the free app’s ads and the optional Premium subscription.
How to check a Reddit app really came from Reddit
Every genuine Reddit app names Reddit, Inc. as its publisher, in one spelling or another.
- On the App Store, confirm the seller reads REDDIT, INC.
- On Google Play, confirm the developer line under the name reads reddit Inc.
- In an installed Edge app, select Settings and more and read the publisher line, which shows the site’s domain.
- In a Chrome app window, check that the address shown is reddit.com.
- Delete any downloaded .exe or .dmg that claims to be Reddit, since Reddit, Inc. publishes neither.

The desktop app has no version number. It loads the current reddit.com every time it opens.
- On a PC or Mac, keep the browser current: in Chrome, open Help > About Google Chrome.

- On Android, open Google Play, select your profile picture, then Manage apps & device, and update Reddit.
- On iPhone or iPad, open the App Store, select your profile picture and update Reddit from the list.
