Recently, Notepad++ v8 was released with new features and improvements. The update has removed Bing from the Search engines list for the Search on Internet command. You can still add and use Bing for searches in Notepad++, here is how.
Notepad++ allows you to lookup for the highlighted text on the web when you choose a search engine in settings from Google, Bing, Yahoo, Bing, and Stack Overflow.
Notepad++ users can launch the app and visit Preferences and set a desired search engine as default.
The latest Notepad++ release has removed Bing.
The developer Don Ho provided the following information as the reason for dropping Bing.
“When a search engine does the censorship instead of its job, the search result loses its quality and it’s not reliable anymore”.
Here is what caused the developer to make the change.
It has been noticed that Bing has not displayed image results for the Tank man query on its search engine in the US for a short period of time. Later it worked.
How to add Bing to Notepad++ for Search on Internet command
- Launch Notepad++
- Click on Settings and select Preferences
- In Preferences, select Search Engine
- Select “Set your search engine here:, and paste or type https://www.bing.com/search?q=$(CURRENT_WORD) into box
- Click on close to save the changes.
Now open a document or text file in Notepad++, highlights some text and right-click and select “Search on Internet”
Bing search results for that phrase will open in the default web browser in a new tab.
