When you open New Tab Page in Google Chrome, it shows websites from browsing history for quick access. Similar to that, after shopping suggestions, Google is now preparing to display recently open files from the Google Drive web interface on Chrome NTP.
What you need to know:
- Google Drive displays recently opened or recently edited files under Quick Access on top.
- Chrome can now derive and put file names of the last three opened or edited files on Google Drive on the New Tab Page.
- When you click any file, the document or file opens in the same tab in Google Drive website in Chrome browser.
This is like Google adding Google Drive’s Quick Access shortcuts to their browser New Tab. To get this to work in your Chrome browser, follow the steps given below.
- Open Chrome browser
- Visit chrome://flags page
- Search for NTP and enable NTP Modules and NTP Drive Module, restart the browser
- Sign into Chrome with your Google Account.
- Visit the Google Drive website.
- Open a document, image, or video in the Drive folder,
- Open a new tab to notice they’re appearing there.
If you don’t want Chrome to display Google Drive contents on New Tab Page
- Open New Tab Page,
- Click on the three-dot icon for “Recently from Google Drive” Card
- Select “Don’t show drive files”
- Or select “Customise cards” and disable the “Drive files” setting.
Or
- Open New tab
- Click on Customize Chrome option at the bottom
- Select Cards and turn off the “Drive Files” Setting
- Click Done, to apply.
You may find this useful. Chrome also provides an option to show or hide Google Drive files on its start page, so you have total control over contents displayed on New Tab Page, like before.
