After releasing its first-period release for Firefox 85 to address security vulnerability and Printing PDF produces an extra empty page, Mozilla is getting ready to publish another update later today. Firefox 85.0.2 to fix a deadlock during the startup.

What you need to know:
- Mozilla to release Firefox 85.0.2 later today on Feb 9, 2021
- The update fixes Firefox’s freezing issue on startup on Windows, Linux, and Mac platforms.
- The issue may have existed for years but brought to Mozilla’s attention two months back

Here are the reported steps to reproduce the issue on Mac
- Launch Firefox
- Try to open a new window from the context menu by using the icon on the dock
- Expected result: new window should open
- Actual result:
Firefox is not responsible with a rainbow cursor
The browser does not come back and the user needs to quit Firefox forcefully.

Mozilla has resolved the issue and uplifted the patch to Firefox 86 and today’s 85.0.2 also contains the fix.
“Fixed a deadlock during startup (bug 1679933)”, not yet available Firefox 85.0.2 release notes says.
The issue isn’t discovered till now by Organization, neither the issue is not noticeable nor affected many users, but It’s worth updating Firefox to this version when available.
How to update to Firefox 85.0.2
- Launch Firefox
- Click on menu > Help > Check for udpates
- The update will be downloaded, restart Firefox to apply it.
At the time of writing, the update is available on Mozilla FTP.
