
Piriform has launched Automatic Updates for CCleaner Free with version 5.74. What this means is, CCleaner will update to the next versions automatically without you needing to visit the website and download the update manually.
What you need to know:
- CCleaner Free version received “automatic updates” feature
- An additional CCleaner process runs in the background and checks for updates once in 12 hours or when CCleaner is open
- An option is available in Settings to prevent CCleaner from auto-updating
Till version 5.73, to ensure CCleaner runs smooth and safe on your system, major updates will be applied automatically. CCleaner Emergency Updater added after the security incident is responsible to install security updates.
CCleaner v5.74
With CCleaner 5.74, irrespective of the update is major or minor, CCleaner applies the update on its own.
This requires an extra process to run in the background and it runs once every 12 hours or when CCleaner is open check for updates.
It’s worth noting that Automatic Updates is a CCleaner Pro feature, that’s now available in the free version as well.
Considering the experiences of users in the past, If you want control over CCleaner updates, do the following.
Disable CCleaner Free’s Automatic Updates
- Launch CCleaner
- Click on Options > Updates
- Uncheck ” Keep CCleaner updated automatically”
Seriously, when Windows Disk Cleaner can wipe temporary and junk files, why you want to run CCleaner on your System? All Web browsers do allow clearing browsing data option also.
