Google Chrome has the ability to auto-refresh the New Tab Page wallpaper daily if you select one image from the collections available in the customize UI, Chrome also allows changing NTP background with a custom image where you can upload one picture from your computer, now Chromium Edge also allows replacing New Tab background with the desired image, today an option for that has been added to latest Canary version’s NTP Settings and Edge Canary now offers a flag which when enabled shows favorites and history suggestions in the address bar.
To get started,
1. Launch Microsoft Edge Canary 83.0.471.0 or later
2. Open new tab, click on gear icon > Page layout > Custom,
3. Under Background, select “your own image”,
4. Navigate to pictures or images located on your device via open dialog and select one image.
By doing this, you’ll see the same image every day, with “image of the day” selected in NTP Settings, you’ll get a new Bing picture daily. With the new option available, new Microsoft Edge now offers plenty of customization options for its new tab page where you can control the visibility of quick links, Bing image, greeting and weather forecast, and news feed.
Edge Canary update has also brought a new “Enable local providers toggle” flag which when enabled, displays favorites and history suggestions in the address bar as you type.
You’ll find a setting to control this in Edge Settings here: Settings > Privacy and services > Address bar > “shows me suggestions from history, favorites, and other data on this device using my typed characters”
In other news related to Edge, Microsoft has updated the Dev channel to 83.0.467.0 with the ability to resume a download from the edge://downloads page, the update also contains other fixes and improvements.
