Recently we’ve covered Microsoft added Microsoft Family Safety Support to Edge Canary Preview build, when we visited “Family & other users” Settings in Windows 10 version 1903 to test this feature in new Edge browser, Windows showed error “We couldn’t connect to Microsoft family right now, so your family in this device might not be up to date.”
If you don’t know, Windows 10 offers Microsoft Family service that allows you to add your family members including children, and monitor their activities and set screen limits and content restrictions in classic Edge browser. Microsoft Account (MSA) is mandatory to use Microsoft Family Safety features and you should be signed into Windows with that account for that.
Microsoft is now bringing parental controls to Edge Chromium also. As we mentioned above, you should be logged into Windows 10 with MSA to access that feature, otherwise, you’ll see the error with a local account in Accounts Settings, even in May 2019 update also.
That’s the case of us also, here is what you need to do to fix this.
- Click on Settings > Accounts
- “Your Info” page shows whether you’re signed into Windows 10 with a local account or Microsoft Account, click “sign with a Microsoft Account instead”
- Sign into Microsoft Account, enter the current password you assigned to login into Windows 10, Accounts Settings page now shows updated info
- Click on “Family & other users” to see no error. You can now add your family member and manage family settings online by using the option provided in the Window.
