Microsoft Edge Canary gets Microsoft Family Safety Support

Right after adding Tracking Prevention support to Microsoft Edge insider preview build, today Microsoft brought “Microsoft Family Safety” support to latest Edge Canary browser to let parents control online activities of their kids in new Edge browser and is available behind a flag. The parental controls service built into Windows 10 and available for Edge on desktop and Android, is now supported on Chromium-based Edge browser which is in Preview.

Enable Microsoft Family Safety support in Microsoft Edge Chromium

1. Make you sure you’ve updated Edge Canary version to 77.0.204.0 or higher, visit edge://flags page

2. Search for “Family” and for “Microsoft Family Safety” flag, choose “Enabled”

3. Restart the browser.

The experimental feature “enables Family Safety features, which apply content restrictions and report a child user’s web activity in accord with parental policies set on the user’s account”.

Do note Microsoft Family settings are tied to Windows 10 PC, if you’re an adult, you need to first add your child account as a family member by visiting “Family & other users ” settings in the Settings app.

If you’ve already setup Microsoft Family for Windows 10 and Edge browser, where children activities and screen time limits can be managed and set by visiting https://account.microsoft.com/family/, then enabling the above-mentioned flag may make tracking and managing your child web activities in Edge Chromium a lot easier.
