Fixing Malwarebytes Anti-Malware has stopped working error

We can fix this by removing MBAM completely with Malwarebytes cleanup utility and after that, we’ve to perform a clean reinstall of it next.

1. Download mbam-clean.exe, save to your computer and run it.

Note: Keep MBAM license ID and key in a place you remember on your computer, so that you need to enter them later to activate Premium or Pro version as this utility on running removes Malwarebytes Program files, license information and logs from your computer.

2. Run the tool, and follow instructions on screen, when it asks to restart your computer allow it do so by clicking on ‘Yes’ button.

3. After system restart, download the latest Malwarebytes version and install it in your computer, it will be installed and run after that without any issues unless your system has malware problems (then you’ve to download and run Malwarebyes Chameleon file).

I need to try this solution by running the cleanup utility… but I don’t seem to be able to locate my license ID and key. I purchased this software back in Nov 2012 online and should have the email with the info… how can I find this info before running the cleanup? Thank you.

Which version are you using? When you activated it? As you’ve already said you purchased it in Nov 2012, search for emails in that time period in your email. It may be not hard to find it, has it helped you. Its tough for me suggest any utility that retrieves and shows MBAM license at present.

Malwarebytes always leaves a window open with a question to quarantine? PUP.Optional.Internet.Optimizer.A. My machine works but those messages are a bother.
Must I uninstall the program & reinstall it again?

That’t the default behavior, Malwarebytes warns when it finds Potentially Unwanted Programs or PUPs during the scan and its quite normal. Quarantine them, after that, visit History > Quarantine and click on ‘Delete All’ button.
You can change settings for PUPS if you want by Settings > Detection and Settings > Under ‘Non-Malware Protection’. Hope that clears your confusion. Malwarebytes has very aggressive policy against PUPs and its good for us.

Thank you so much for your brilliant advice! (and giving me a chance to find your great website). I did exactly as you said and it worked out perfectly. When Malwarebytes malfunctioned it scared me to death, but after all it’s a computer program just like my other programs and sometimes glitches happen. (Although to be honest I would rather be sick than my computer!). Thanks – I can breathe easy now!
