How to Enable Rootkit Scanning and Chameleon Self-Protection in Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 2.0.0

Malwarebytes Corporation has released a public beta for Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 2.0.0 for Windows and is available for testing with completely new interface, integration of Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit and Malwarebytes Chameleon driver and other improvements. Before you install this version, first, you must uninstall Malwarebytes Pro or free trial from your computer and reboot (no need to run MBAM cleanup utility) and then install MBAM 2.0.0.

Enabling Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit and Chameleon in Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 2

I. Rootkit scan is not enabled by default, to enable it

Click on Settings>Detection and Protection, under Detection options, check ‘scan for rootkits’.

II. Malwarebytes Chameleon technology introduced with MBAM 1.60 lets you run anti-malware even on infected system. This feature has been included in this version (premium feature), and this too not enabled by default, you can by

Clicking on Settings>Advanced Settings, check ‘enable self-protection module’.

Note: Advanced Settings are grayed out, that’s why can not be accessed in free version, the same is not true for MBAR.

To downgrade to Malwarebytes free from Premium version, click on ‘View details’ for License in Dashboard and click ‘Deactivate’ button.

    Was advised an up date for Malwarebytes was available and I let it be installed. NOw when I click on the icon nothing comes up.

      May uninstalling and reinstalling Malwarebytes could help. Please try it. Hope you’re using latest Malarebytes 3.5.1
