Free antivirus vendors like AVG and Avast have already released 2013 products with support for Windows 8 and there are other popular security vendors like Kaspersky, Norton, Bullguard, McAfee, Trend Micro, F-secure, Panda Security whom latest products are already compatible with Windows 8 Release preview hence they suppose to work better in Windows 8 RTM.
Yesterday’s released Avira Free Antivirus 2013 or Avira 2013 products for that matter not compatible with Windows 8, can you believe this? it’s the fact as Avira also not mentioned about Windows 8 on their site for 2013 products.
But system requirements mentioned in Avira Free AV 2013 manual reveals this, check them below with note highlighted in bold regarding Windows 8 compatibility
Avira 2o13 System Requirements
The system requirements are as follows:

8
So when Avira 2013 is going to support Windows 8? we don’t know Avira needs to answer that. We assume may be after General availability of Win8 on October 26 or with the next program update, so Avira users lets wait till then or you can try to install Avira 2013 on Windows 8 at your own risk.
Update : Avira still not compatible with Windows 8 after general availability and confirms their products will work in Win8 in first quarter of 2013, we don’t know the exact date and month.
Meanwhile if you try to install Avira on Windows 8 installer pops up and shows “this program has compatibility issue” dialog, you can still able to run the program with option provided on dialog but it is not recommended you may face issues.
