Avast has made its Firewall feature free to all Avast Products, including Avast Free Antivirus with version 21.7. When Windows built-in basic Firewall protects you, do you really need the Firewall feature that comes with a Third-party Antivirus?.
Windows Operating System itself comes with Windows Defender Antivirus and Firewall.
You may use third-party security for extra features.
Avast is providing a free Firewall with its Avast Free antivirus 21.7 or later versions.
What is a Firewall?
A Firewall acts as a shield between your PC and the outside world and monitors incoming and outgoing connections
Avast Free Antivirus
- provides Ransomware Protection
- warns when it finds suspiciously behaving applications.
- Blocks notifications from showing up when you run apps in full screen or games with Do Not Disturb Mode (formerly known as Game Mode)
- With Cybercapture, detects rare, new files and sends them to Avast Threat Labs for analysis and notifies the result.
Avast Free Antivirus 21.7 comes w/ Firewall
First and foremost, the Firewall feature is available to a small group of users.
So everyone who installs Avast 21.7 antivirus won’t get it.
Security vendor wants to make it available to all its users after thorough testing. You should receive it in five to eight weeks’ time.
If you know about how Firewall in Windows works, this may work the same way.
The Firewall is enabled by default and you’ll find it in Protection Menu.

Windows Defender Firewall in Windows 11/10 and Avast Firewall
With Firewall in Avast active in Windows, Windows Firewall disables itself to avoid conflicts.
You can open it by typing ” Windows Defender Firewall” in the Start
Or open Classic Control Panel > System and Security> Windows Defender Firewall.

- Connected status of Private Networks and Guest or Public Networks

Disable and uninstall Firewall in Avast Free Antivirus
As we said above, Avast Firewall starts working out of the box since it was installed, however you need to select your network from Home or Public.
If you don’t like Free Firewall offered by Avast and want to switch to and Windows 11/10 Firewall, follow the below steps for that.
- Click on the Avast icon in the System Tray to open its GUI
- Visit Settings > Protection > Firewall
- Uncheck Firewall, select a time duration,
- For instance, if you want to disable it forever, select “Stop indefinitely“.

- Click “OK, STOP“, when a notification appears in Avast UI, choose Ignore, that’s it.
To Uninstall
- Click Start
- Type Avast, Click Uninstall
- In Control Panel with Avast Free Antivirus selected, click change
- Uncheck “Firewall” in the setup window, click Change and Yes, and wait for the Firewall uninstallation process to complete.

- Restart the computer when prompted.

Windows Defender Firewall turns itself automatically on when you disable or uninstall the Avast Firewall module. You can verify that by heading to its Settings.
