The installer works for every licence type. Your Autodesk Account decides whether Fusion opens as personal use, trial, education or a paid subscription.
How to install Fusion 360 free for personal use on Windows 11
Register the free licence first, then run the installer. The licence and the download come from the same Autodesk page.
- Open the Autodesk Fusion for personal use page.
- Under the Autodesk Fusion for personal use column, select Get Autodesk Fusion for personal use.
- Sign in to your Autodesk Account, or select Create Account to make one.
- Complete the request form, accept the Autodesk Terms of Use and select Next.
- Select DOWNLOAD NOW to activate the licence and save the installer.
- Open Downloads and double-click Fusion Client Downloader.exe .
- Wait while the installer downloads and sets up Fusion.
- Sign in to Fusion with the same Autodesk Account.
Allow up to 30 minutes after DOWNLOAD NOW before you sign in, so Autodesk can grant the licence. If Fusion is already installed, the button grants the licence without a reinstall.
Install Fusion 360 with winget on Windows
The winget package runs the same Autodesk Client Downloader from a terminal, which suits scripted setups.
- Right-click Start and select Terminal (Admin).
- Run winget install –id Autodesk.Fusion -e to install Fusion.
- Wait for the Client Downloader to finish fetching the app.
- Open Autodesk Fusion from the Start menu and sign in with your Autodesk Account.

To install the Client Downloader for all users, sign in as an administrator, right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
Then run “C:\Downloads\Fusion Client Downloader.exe” –globalinstall , changing the path to where you saved the file.

Is Fusion 360 free?
Yes, for personal, non-commercial projects. Business use needs a paid subscription. Fusion for personal use is a free licence for individuals with non-commercial personal design projects or home-based non-commercial manufacturing and fabrication. It runs for a 3-year term, and you reapply when it ends. Commercial users pay for an Autodesk Fusion subscription after a 30-day free trial. Students and educators qualify for an annual education subscription. A site offering the full commercial version free is distributing tampered software.
Fusion shows a renewal prompt 20 days before a personal use licence expires. Select Renew personal license in that dialog to keep using it.
Should you install Fusion for personal use or a paid subscription?
Both use the same installer. The licence controls which tools unlock.
Choose personal use for 3D printing, hobby CNC and home projects. Choose a paid subscription for client work or advanced tools. The free licence includes standard design and 3D modelling, 2.5 and 3 axis milling, turning, FFF additive, fabrication and local rendering. Electronics are capped at 2 schematics, 2 layers and 80 cm2 of board area, and only 10 documents stay editable at once. Simulation, generative design, extensions, cloud rendering, probing, 3+2 and multi-axis milling, rapid moves and automatic tool changes need a paid subscription.

Fix Fusion 360 not installing on Windows 11 or Mac
The installer says Unable to Install
Your operating system does not meet Fusion’s system requirements.
- Run winver on Windows, or open About This Mac on macOS.
- Update to Windows 11 23H2 or macOS 14 Sonoma or newer.
- Download a fresh installer in a different browser, and turn off ad blockers while you do.
Problem installing Fusion with a Connection, Socket or Timeout error
A firewall, antivirus tool, proxy or weak Wi-Fi link is cutting off Autodesk’s download.
- Quit the installer and run it again.
- Pause antivirus and firewall software until setup finishes.
- Check your proxy settings, and plug in an Ethernet cable instead of using Wi-Fi.
- Reset your network if the timeout returns.
Setup fails with [Errno 13] Permission denied
Your account lacks full read and write access to the installation folders.
- Shut the computer down fully and start it again.
- Create a second administrator profile on the same computer.
- Sign in to that profile and run the installer there.
Setup fails with [Errno 22] Invalid argument
Leftover setup folders from an earlier attempt are damaged.
- Restart the computer and close any Autodesk desktop apps.
- Type %localappdata%\Autodesk into the File Explorer address bar and press Enter.
- Rename the Webdeploy and Web Services folders.
- Run a freshly downloaded Client Downloader.
An old Fusion 360 installer keeps failing
Installers saved before the rename to Autodesk Fusion are out of date.
- Delete the old installer from Downloads.
- Download the current installer from your Autodesk Account.
- Check that the new file has no 360 in its name and an orange icon.
How to uninstall Fusion 360 completely
Autodesk’s Fusion Service Utility removes the app more cleanly than deleting folders by hand.
- Press Windows + I and open Apps > Installed apps.
- Find Autodesk Fusion and select the three dots to its right.
- Select Modify to open the Fusion Service Utility.
- Select Uninstall.
- Select Yes, Proceed and wait for the removal to finish.
On a Mac, press F4, search Launchpad for Autodesk Fusion Service Utility, open it and select Uninstall.
