Firefox makes sure Adult content doesn’t appear on New Tab Page to save you from embarrassments

It seems Mozilla has taken care for adult content from user browsing history and bookmarks to not to appear on new tab page for their own good than users in the past as the company doesn’t want their commercial partners sponsored tiles not to be associated with adult content. Even after the controversial sponsored tiles project has been discontinued, Mozilla is still continuing it for the user to not to face any embarrassment moment when others look at their NTP, good for you.

Firefox filters adultcontent from browsing history new tab page

As of today, Firefox checks a list of more than 2900 sites and filters them if found, other NSFW sites will slip through and appear on the new tab. The company has taken precautions for this four years back and it still works in current Firefox 64. Firefox checks hashes for adults base domain and removes them so that they dont appear under Highlights, check this and here Mozilla maintains adult site base index.
