Which carrier has the cheapest Apple Watch plan?

Your watch must use the same carrier as your iPhone, so the cheapest option is usually the one your phone is already on. Match your situation to a row.

Your situation Lowest listed watch price Why
T-Mobile customer on Experience Beyond 2.0 $5 a month Watch lines are discounted by bill credit on that plan
Verizon customer on a qualifying unlimited phone plan $7.50 a month 50% off the $15 watch Unlimited plan
Visible+ Pro customer $0 extra Smartwatch service is included
T-Mobile customer on another plan $10 a month Watch Plan 2.0 with AutoPay
Visible or Visible+ customer $10 a month Taxes and fees already included
Cricket customer $10 a month Unlimited Smartwatch plan
AT&T customer on an Unlimited plan From $10.99 a month AT&T's stated starting price for a watch line
Verizon customer without a qualifying plan $15 a month No 50% discount applies

For a child's watch set up with Apple Watch For Your Kids, the watch can use a different carrier from your iPhone. Apple names AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, Cricket, Boost Mobile, Xfinity Mobile, Cellcom and C Spire among the US carriers that support it.

What you need before activating cellular

Requirement What Apple states
A cellular watch A GPS + Cellular model; a GPS-only watch cannot get its own service
A compatible iPhone Apple Watch Series 12, Ultra 4 and SE 3 need iPhone 11 or later with iOS 27 or later
The same carrier as your iPhone Required, except for a watch set up with Apple Watch For Your Kids
An eligible account Prepaid and some older accounts are not supported; enterprise plans need the company's or carrier's approval
Carrier coverage You must be inside your carrier's network during setup
Current software The latest iOS and watchOS, plus any carrier settings update
Cellular data for Safari On the iPhone: Settings > Cellular > Show All, then turn on Safari

Visible and Cricket appear on Apple's list of supported US carriers even though Apple's general note excludes prepaid accounts, so ask your carrier to confirm your exact plan qualifies.

How to activate Apple Watch cellular service

You can add cellular during the first watch setup by choosing the cellular option when it appears. If you skipped it, add it later from the iPhone.

  1. On your iPhone, open the Apple Watch app.
  2. Tap the My Watch tab, then tap Cellular.
  3. Tap Set Up Cellular.
  4. Follow your carrier's screens to pick a watch plan and sign in to your carrier account.
  5. Wait for the plan to appear at the top of the Cellular screen, then check the connection on the watch.

For a family member's watch, open the Apple Watch app, tap All Watches, select their watch and tap Done, then tap Cellular > Set Up Cellular. If setup fails, turn Airplane Mode on for 15 seconds on both devices, close the Watch app, restart both devices, and try again before calling the carrier.

How to check Apple Watch cellular is working and what it uses

  1. Press the side button on the watch to open Control Center.
  2. Look at the Cellular button. Green means the watch is on cellular, and the green bars show signal strength.
  3. A white Cellular button means the plan is active but the watch is using your iPhone over Bluetooth or Wi-Fi.
  4. Tap the Cellular button, then Cellular, to see the carrier and status. If Plan or Status is missing, contact the carrier.
  5. To track data use, open the Apple Watch app on the iPhone, tap My Watch > Cellular and scroll to Cellular Data Usage.

The watch switches on its own to the most power-efficient link available, which can be your iPhone when it is nearby, a Wi-Fi network or cellular. Series 11 and later, SE 3 and Ultra 3 and later can use 5G where the carrier offers it.

The Apple Watch itself costs extra

The monthly plan is on top of the watch price, and a cellular model costs more than a GPS model. These are Apple's US starting prices, checked on October 12, 2026; to see how the models differ beyond price, compare every Apple Watch generation side by side.

Model GPS model from GPS + Cellular from Extra for cellular
Apple Watch SE 3 $249 $299 $50
Apple Watch Series 12 (aluminum) $399 $499 $100
Apple Watch Series 12 (titanium) Not offered $699 Cellular included
Apple Watch Ultra 4 Not offered $799 Cellular and satellite included

Carriers also sell the watch on installments. AT&T, for example, lists the Series 12 42mm at $15.28 a month and the SE 3 40mm at $8.34 a month on a 36-month, 0% APR agreement, which is separate from the service charge. Apple's own monthly prices, such as $41.58 a month for 12 months on the Series 12 GPS + Cellular, are 0% APR Apple Card Monthly Installments, so you need to apply for an Apple Card to use them. If your current watch has battery trouble, fix an Apple Watch that will not charge before you pay for a new cellular model.

How to remove or move an Apple Watch cellular plan

Removing the plan from the watch does not always stop billing. You might need to cancel the line with the carrier, and carrier fees can apply.

  1. On your iPhone, open the Apple Watch app and tap My Watch > Cellular.
  2. Tap the information button next to your plan at the top of the screen.
  3. Tap Remove [carrier] Plan, then tap again to confirm.
  4. Contact the carrier to cancel the watch line if billing continues.
  5. When you switch iPhone carriers, return to Cellular, tap Add a New Plan and follow the new carrier's steps.
  6. For a new watch, remove the plan from the old one, pair the new watch and tap Set up Cellular during setup.

Apple Watch cellular cost FAQ

How much does an Apple Watch cellular plan cost?

Most US carriers charge $10 to $15 a month for a watch line. As checked on October 12, 2026, T-Mobile charges $10 or $15, Visible and Cricket $10, AT&T from $10.99, and Verizon $15 or $25 before its 50% discount.

Does Apple Watch cellular cost extra?

Yes, twice. A GPS + Cellular watch costs $50 to $100 more than the GPS model, and the carrier charges a monthly watch line. Visible+ Pro is one plan that includes watch service at no added charge.

How much is it to add cellular to an Apple Watch?

You cannot add cellular to a GPS-only watch. On a GPS + Cellular watch, adding service costs the carrier's watch line price, usually $10 to $15 a month, set up from My Watch > Cellular > Set Up Cellular in the iPhone's Apple Watch app.

What is the cheapest Apple Watch cellular plan?

Among the carriers checked, T-Mobile's $5 watch line on Experience Beyond 2.0 is the lowest paid option, and Visible+ Pro includes watch service. Your watch must use your iPhone's carrier, so the cheapest real choice depends on your phone plan.

How much does a cellular Apple Watch cost?

Apple's US prices start at $299 for the SE 3 GPS + Cellular, $499 for the Series 12 GPS + Cellular in aluminum, and $799 for the Ultra 4, which always includes cellular. Monthly carrier service is extra.

How much does an Apple Watch cost?

Apple's current US lineup starts at $249 for Apple Watch SE 3, $399 for Series 12 and $799 for Ultra 4. Cellular models cost more: $299 for the SE 3 and $499 for the Series 12 in aluminum.

Does Apple Watch cellular require a separate phone number?

No. Apple states that your iPhone and Apple Watch share the same number. The carrier may show a different number for the watch, but it is used only for billing or tracking.

Can a GPS-only Apple Watch use cellular service?

No. Only GPS + Cellular models can connect to a carrier network. A GPS model makes calls and sends messages only through your iPhone when it is nearby.

How much does the Apple Watch 3 cellular cost?

Apple no longer lists Series 3 in its lineup, and Visible's watch plan supports Series 4 and newer only. For other carriers, an older cellular watch pays the same watch line price as a new one if the carrier still supports it.

Is cellular on Apple Watch worth it?

It is worth it if you want calls, messages and alerts without your iPhone, such as on runs or for a child's watch. It is not worth it if your iPhone is almost always with you, because the watch already uses the phone's connection.

The bottom line on Apple Watch cellular cost

Budget about $10 to $15 a month for service on top of a $50 to $100 higher watch price, and check your iPhone carrier's watch page first, since the watch must use the same carrier. Carrier discounts change the answer: T-Mobile Experience Beyond 2.0 cuts the line to $5, a qualifying Verizon phone plan halves it, and Visible+ Pro includes it, while most other plans land at $10 to $15 plus taxes and fees.
