Every EA games download on a Windows PC or Mac runs through the EA app, Electronic Arts’ free launcher. Download it from ea.com, sign in with your EA Account, and your library, store and friends list sit in one window.
The EA app replaced Origin on both PC and Mac. It runs on 64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11, and on macOS Catalina or newer.
This guide covers which installer to pick, the official link, install steps on Windows and Mac, requirements, fixes for stuck downloads and how to remove the app.

Which EA app download do you need?
EA offers one installer per platform on the same page. Match your computer to a row and click the matching button.
| Your computer | What to download | Link |
|---|---|---|
| 64-bit Windows 11 or Windows 10 PC | The Windows button, which saves EAappInstaller.exe | EA app for Windows |
| Mac on macOS Catalina or newer | The macOS button, which saves the EA app.pkg package | EA app for Mac |
| PC with an older Origin install | The Windows installer; the EA app replaced Origin | EA app download page |
| 32-bit Windows or a Mac older than Catalina | No supported build; upgrade the operating system first | Not available |
| EA games bought on Steam or Epic | The Windows installer as well; EA games on PC need it | EA app download page |
Download the official EA app for Windows 11, 10 and Mac
Electronic Arts hosts both installers behind the buttons on its own EA app page. Use that page and skip any site that repackages the setup file.
- EA app download page on ea.com — Free. Select Windows or macOS
- EA Help: games that won’t download, install or load — Official fixes for PC and Mac
- EA Help: uninstall the EA app and games — Removal steps
The launcher updates itself after the first install, so the file you download today stays current.

How to install the EA app on Windows 11 and 10
Use the installer from ea.com only. Keep your EA Account ID and password ready for the last step.
- Open the EA app page on ea.com.
- Select the Windows button to save EAappInstaller.exe.
- Open your Downloads folder and double-click EAappInstaller.exe.
- Follow the setup prompts and let the installer finish.
- Open the EA app from the Start menu.
- Sign in with your EA Account ID and password.
- Go to your Library to install a game you own.
Games install to C:\Program Files\EA Games unless you choose another folder.
Which EA app download do you need for your Mac?
The Mac version is a standard .pkg installer. Open the Apple menu and select About This Mac to read your macOS version first.
| Your Mac says | What to do | Link |
|---|---|---|
| macOS Catalina (10.15) or newer | Select macOS, open EA app.pkg and follow the installer | EA app for Mac |
| An older macOS release | Update macOS; the EA app needs Catalina or newer | Not available |
| Origin for Mac still installed | Install the EA app; it replaced Origin on Mac | EA app download page |
The launcher runs on Mac, yet many EA games ship for Windows only. Check a game’s store page in the app for Mac support before you buy it.
On macOS Catalina, the app can also need Full Disk Access for EABackgroundService before downloads start.
Is the EA app free?
The launcher costs nothing on Windows or Mac. You pay only for the games and extras you choose to buy inside it.
Yes. The EA app is a free download, and signing in needs only a free EA Account. EA’s download page lists no price for either installer, and its FAQ says your EA Account ID and password are all you need to log in. Games in the built-in store carry their own prices.
Treat any site that charges for the launcher, or asks for your password to unlock a download, as a scam.
Should you install the EA app or Origin?
Old guides still link to Origin. EA’s own FAQ answers the question directly.
Install the EA app. It replaced Origin on both PC and Mac. EA’s FAQ answers “Has the EA app replaced Origin on PC and Mac?” with a single word: yes. Your purchases stay on your EA Account, so they appear in the new library after you sign in.
How to play EA games bought on Steam or the Epic Games Store
EA states that the EA app is required to play EA games on PC. That rule covers copies bought through other stores too.
- Install the EA app from the official page first.
- Launch the EA game from your Steam or Epic library as usual.
- Sign in to your EA Account when the EA app window opens.
- Link the Steam or Epic account if the app asks you to.
- Let the game start once the sign-in completes.
Linking accounts also imports your friends lists, so you can play with people on other platforms.
Check the EA app system requirements before you download
Press Windows + Pause or open Settings, System, About, and read System type to confirm a 64-bit PC.
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Software | EA app |
| Developer | Electronic Arts |
| Latest version | Not published; the app updates itself |
| License / Price | Free; games sold separately |
| Windows | Windows 10 or Windows 11, 64-bit PC |
| Mac | macOS Catalina or newer |
| Architecture | 64-bit Windows only; no 32-bit build |

Each game lists its own requirements, and most need far more storage and graphics power than the launcher.

A damaged launcher cache blocks the download.
- Launch the EA app on your PC or Mac.
- From the main menu bar, go to Help and choose App Recovery.

Which store should you buy EA games from on PC?
Several stores sell EA games, but the EA app still runs underneath each PC copy.
| Where you buy | EA app needed on PC | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| EA app store | Yes, it is the store | Buying EA games directly with one account and one launcher |
| Steam | Yes, per EA’s FAQ | Players who keep their whole library in Steam |
| Epic Games Store | Yes, per EA’s FAQ | Players who already use the Epic Games Launcher |
Buy from the EA app when you have no other launcher. You avoid running two programs for one game.
Frequently asked questions
Is the EA app free to download?
Yes. The EA app is a free download for Windows and Mac from ea.com, and you sign in with a free EA Account. Games in its store are sold separately at their own prices.
Where is the official EA games download for PC?
Use the EA app page at ea.com/ea-app. It has a Windows button for EAappInstaller.exe and a macOS button for EA app.pkg. Every EA game on PC then installs from the app’s library.

Yes. EA lists Windows 10 and Windows 11 on a 64-bit PC as the supported systems. Check System type under Settings, System, About if you are unsure whether your PC is 64-bit.
How big is the EA app download?
EA does not state an installer size on its download page. The launcher itself is small next to the games, which each list their own storage needs on their store pages.
