
Microsoft has been testing displaying thumbnails in the Favorites hub in Edge for some time now. The company is now working on adding a setting to disable the “image generation” related to saved websites that appear in the Favorites flyout.
Microsoft is constantly testing new features in the Edge browser. Some features can be seen and enabled in Canary, some are available to select users via Controlled Feature rollouts.
Microsoft Edge shows thumbnails for Favorites
Edge shows favorites in the” list view” by default. This allows Edge to display more favorites.
Similar to Chrome Visual bookmarks on Android and Power bookmarks on desktop, Edge supports “Thumbnail view” for favorites.
In addition, reportedly, Edge to support multiple views for favorites, such as List, “Small thumbnail view (Treeview and Breadcrumb)”, “Medium Thumbnail view”, and “Large Thumbnail view”.
To improve your experience, Edge to capture images for all your favorites, existing and newly saved.
If for some reason, you don’t like seeing favorites presented with thumbnails when you open the hub, you can switch to list view for fast access.
According to the newly available setting, here is how Edge ” Save (s) images for favorites”. It takes the dominant image related to a saved website or screenshot of the page. Edge can do this in the background to update favorites that do not currently have an image associated.
Here is how to disable Thumbnail generation for Favorites in Edge
- Click on Menu
- Settings > Privacy, search, and services
- Scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page and toggle off “save images for Favorites”.

Note: You can switch to the List view for Favorites if you didn’t like the Thumbnail view, but with Edge’s new setting you can able to stop the browser from capturing images from saved websites.
