Opera has an add-ons store that contains very few extensions. Opera based on Chromium supports Chrome Extensions, but till now, to install extensions from Chrome Web Store in Opera, you must first install Opera addon named “Install Chrome extensions”. After that, you can install any Chrome extension you like. This is no longer required going forward. That opera addon may be redundant in the future.
While the Vivaldi browser supports Chrome extensions and allows to install of them with ease. The same is the case with the new Edge, however, you need to toggle a setting to allow extensions from other stores.
Whereas in the case of Opera, installing an extension from Opera add-ons Store is mandatory.
When you visit the Chrome Web Store in Opera, it prompts you to install the required extension.
Opera Software is removing this step in future versions of Opera.
Opera 74 supports the native installation of Chrome extensions
- Launch Opera browser
- Visit opera:///flags page
- Search for “Native Chrome webstore extensions installation”
- Select Enabled and restart the browser.
- Head over to Chrome Web Store Extensions repository and try to install an extension, when the “Add to Opera” button appears, click it.
