It is surprising to learn that Scroll to Text Fragment works in the New Microsoft Edge browser, but Google search isn’t creating Scroll to text links for featured snippets in the Edge browser and that’s why Edge is also not highlighting text on websites when a user comes from by clicking a featured snippet.
But, this works on other Chromium browsers such as Vivaldi and Opera out of the box. Since Firefox doesn’t support Text to Fragment, the feature itself doesn’t work in the browser.
Three months back, we’ve reported Google Search is using Chrome’s Text Fragment feature for feature Snippets
Today Google announced on Twitter they’re using the feature on Search for featured Snippets.
“As we have done with AMP pages since December 2018, click on a featured snippet now takes users to the exact highlighted text for HTML pages, when we can confidently determine where the text is”
Google further says this works in ” browsers that support underlying technology” which is Scroll to Text to Fragment, a Chromium-based feature where Edge and Firefox have shown no interest.
The Intent Ship for Scroll to Text Fragment page notes Edge, Firefox, and Safari gave no signals, Mozilla has their security concerns.
The good news the scroll to Text Fragment works in the new Microsoft Edge browser out of the box. You can try visiting this URL fragment in Edge 83 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chameleon#:~:text=Mechanism%20of%20color%20change
We’ve tried to enable Text Fragment Anchor in Edge to see if the featured snippet link visited from Google gets the content highlighted Edge, but that also not helped.

Here Google search is not generating Scroll to text links for featured snippets in Edge, this could be because Edge not shown interested in using the feature, or Google is intentionally doing that.
UPDATE June 06, 2020: Google Search has started to use Scroll to Text links for featured snippets in Edge also. The below screenshot confirms that.
