The first beta for Firefox Preview v3.0.0 for Android (with internal codename Fenix) is now available for download with Enhanced Tracking Protection feature enabled by default for all users and adds notifications support for long-running downloads.
The development of Firefox Preview or the next Firefox for Android is continuing at a rapid pace towards a general release in 2020, as of now, Firefox Preview 2.3.0 is the latest version available on Play Store, Mozilla has readied beta 1 for Firefox Preview v3.0 with new features, improvements and bug fixes, and its APKs are now available for download.
The latest version blocks trackers by default with Enhanced Tracking Protection (ETP) activated by default. You can change Tracking Protection to “Standard mode” by visiting Settings. To see the trackers blocked on a site, click on the purple shield icon in the address bar.
While the new Firefox Preview feature may improve performance and block tracking content such as “outside ads, videos and other content from loading that contains tracking code”, this may also break some websites, you can able to turn off ETP for those affected sites by toggling ETP switch in the address bar.
Here is what’s new in Firefox Fenix v3.0 according to Mozilla
- Turned on ETP (Enhanced Tracking Protection) for all users
- Added support for long-running downloads with notifications
- Bug fixes and UI updates.
