Mozilla has now provided a keyboard shortcut to launch focused video in Picture-in-Picture mode in Firefox browser and the shortcut is “Ctrl+Shift+]”. Do note, PiP is currently an experimental feature and is available in beta and Nightly versions of Windows, but not on Mac and Linux.
Mozilla doesn’t want to use Picture in Picture Web API for the feature, which Chrome uses for Picture in Picture mode, they have developed a browser UI that allows the user to pop out the video playing in a separate window, that stays always on top of other windows.
As of now, you can pop out a video in the Picture in Picture window in Firefox in two ways: right-click on the video context menu and select the option or click the Picture in Picture in toggle (the small blue rectangle) which appears when you hover over a video.
Note: Firefox now offers an option in the Preferences to hide Picture in Picture toggle.
Using the Keyboard shortcut to launch Video in Picture in Picture window in Firefox browser
- In latest Firefox Nightly or beta or developer, visit YouTube

- Ensure the video is focused, press Ctrl+Shift+] for the video to appear in Picture in Picture player window.
