After we’ve reported Picture in Picture mode is available for testing in Firefox, since then Mozilla made a lot of changes and improvements to the feature and today, it added controls -play, pause, and close buttons– to PiP window player and also offers Un-PiP button that lets you go back to originating video tab, FYI, Google Chrome labels the button as “Back to tab” for PiP window.

Do note Picture in Picture mode in Firefox is still development and is disabled by default in Nightly, which you can turn on by following these instructions.

Firefox adds Play/Pause, Close and Un-Pip Controls to PiP window
To try the feature with new changes,
1. Ensure you’re using Nightly
2. Visit YouTube, play any video,
3. Right click twice and select “Picture in Picture”
Now you can notice “This video is playing in Picture-in-Picture mode” message and in the PiP window you can spot Pause/Play, Un-Pip, and close buttons.
Clicking the un-PiP button lets you close the PiP window and return to the main tab that is playing video. The change landed a few hours back in Nightly and target milestone set to Firefox 68 for this.
Tip: Like Chrome, you can also watch local videos in PiP mode in Firefox, that’s great to know.
