How to enable or disable Stickers on desktop in Windows 11

After Windows Spotlight and desktop Search bar experiment, Microsoft is now testing Stickers for desktop backgrounds in Windows 11. Generally, you see stickers In Social Messengers, the Redmond giant is now bringing them to its new OS. The Stickers Editor allows adding stickers to wallpapers that persist when you change the background. The Stickers feature is currently available in  Windows 11 22H2 build 25126, here is how you can enable it.

How to Enable Stickers for desktop background in Windows 11

  1. Launch Run dialog (Win+R) and open Registry Editor by typing “regedit” command
  2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftPolicyManagercurrentdevice
  3. Create a new key named “Stickers
  4. On the right pane, create a new DWORD (32-bit) value, double click and name it “EnableStickers” and set its value to 1

  5. Collapse HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and close the Registry Editor
  6. Open Task Manager,
  7. In the Processes tab, find and select “Windows Explorer”, and click “Restart task”

How to add stickers to wallpapers in Windows 11

  1. Right-click on the desktop and select Personalize
  2. Go to Background
  3. Click “Add stickers

  4. In the Stickers button that appears on top of the desktop, click it and choose a sticker to add, resize and move its position, done.

    A sticker is added to the wallpaper, in this way you can add many stickers. You can also utilize the “Add or edit stickers” option in the desktop right-click menu .

How to disable the Stickers feature in Windows 11

  1. Open Registry Editor
  2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftPolicyManagercurrentdevice
  3. Delete the Stickers key or change the “EnableStickers” Value to 0, and close the Registry editor.
  4. Restart the Windows Explorer process in Task Manager as mentioned above to apply the changes.
  5. Done.

You may have to manually remove existing stickers or change the desktop wallpaper, otherwise, they remain even after disabling the feature.

Do note, that the Stickers feature for Windows 11 hasn’t been announced by Microsoft as of writing and is hidden by default to insiders running in dev channel build 25126.

Final words: Microsoft is adding the ability to Windows 11 to customize the desktop background with Stickers. The feature can be enabled and you’ll be able to add a different variety of stickers to wallpaper.
