KB4586781 fails to install, causes Blue Screen error and more

After the October Cumulative Update KB4579311, November Cumulative Update KB4586781 for Windows 10 is also failing to install for some users. In addition to that, the update is causing blue screen errors, making some devices fails to start after installing the update.

Microsoft has recently released Patch Tuesday Update Kb4586781 OS builds 19041.630 and 19042.630 for Windows 10 2004 and 20H2.

The update improves security

  • when using input devices, Microsoft Office products and
  • when Windows performs basic operations

The Security update has some known issues. It can be installed via Windows Update or manually from the Microsoft Update Catalog site.

KB4586781 fails to install, causes Blue Screen error

Some users who installed the update reported on the Answers forum that after installing the update, they received a blue screen error (after the restart), and the device automatically repaired itself and shut off.

The affected user confirms removing the update fixed the issue.

On the feedback hub and Answers forum, users reported they’re unable to install the update. It is consistently failing by showing random error codes.

Uninstall KB4586781 update in Windows 10 2004/20H2

Those who installed the update and have a terrible experience can uninstall the KB4586781 update

  1. Open Settings
  2. Control Panel > Programs > Programs and features
  3. Click View Installed updates
  4. Select ” Security Update for Microsoft Windows (Kb4586781)
