Recently we’ve reported Google is experimenting with showing a dedicated row for tab switch suggestions as you type, while there are more than 20 flags available on Chrome flags page related to Omnibox and suggestions displayed by Chrome browser in it including of pedals, Chromium team is testing yet another new feature where address bar displays suggestions for keyword search, tab-switch buttons, and pedals in a row, they’re calling the feature as “Omnibox suggestion button row”.
This is how the Omnibox in Chome Canary 81 looks like if you enable the flag that has this description: ” Enable a button row on Omnibox suggestions to present actionable items such as keyword search, tab-switch buttons, and pedals “.
As you can see from the above screenshot, the first suggestion contain keyword and switch to tab buttons.
Recent commit made by Chromium team on feature reveals the following details:
“[Omnibox] Add suggestion button row for actionable items. This CL creates a button row to present actionable items including keyword tab switch and pedals. No focus or keyboard handling is considered yet, but the buttons can appear and be clicked.”
In other news related to Chrome, recently we’ve covered Google has started the process of deprecating Chrome User Agent String by adding freeze User-Agent Request header flag to Canary. The Chromium team also made improvements to Reader Mode where the feature has got a new icon and the company has removed or replaced references for “distilled page contents” with reader mode.
