To check your Windows build, press Windows + I, open System > About and read the System type line. An ARM-based processor line means you need the ARM64 build.
The Microsoft Store picks the right architecture for you, so it is the simplest route when you are unsure.

Brave distributes the desktop browser through its own site, its GitHub releases page and the Microsoft Store. The phone and tablet apps are on the App Store and Google Play.

Skip download portals. None of them publish the SHA-256 hashes that let you check a Brave installer against Microsoft’s winget records.
How to install Brave Browser on Windows 11 and 10
This route uses the installer from Brave’s own site. It works the same way on Windows 11 and Windows 10.
- Open brave.com/download in your current browser.
- Select the download button for Windows and save the file.
- Open Downloads and run the Brave setup file.
- Select Yes when User Account Control asks for permission.
- Wait while the installer copies Brave onto the PC.
- Open Brave from the Start menu once the setup window closes.
- Import bookmarks and passwords from your old browser when Brave offers it, or skip that step.
- Pin Brave to the taskbar by right-clicking its icon and selecting Pin to taskbar.
Install Brave Browser from the Microsoft Store or with winget
The Microsoft Store listing installs Brave for your user account only, with no administrator prompt. winget can install it for one user or for the whole PC.
- Open Microsoft Store and search for Brave Browser, or open product XP8C9QZMS2PC1T directly.
- Check that the publisher line reads Brave and the price reads Free.
- Select Install and wait for the Store to finish.
- For the command line, right-click Start and open Terminal.
- Run winget install Brave.Brave to install the community package.
- Run winget install XP8C9QZMS2PC1T –source msstore to install the Store copy instead.
- Add –scope user to the first command to install without administrator rights.
The Brave.Brave package offers a machine-wide installer that needs elevation and a per-user silent installer that does not. The Store package and the community package update on separate schedules, so their version numbers can differ for a few days.
Should you use the Brave online installer or the offline setup?
Use the standalone offline setup when you install on several PCs or on a slow connection. Brave publishes full standalone setups for every Windows architecture on its GitHub releases page. BraveBrowserStandaloneSetup.exe installs for all users and asks for administrator rights, while BraveBrowserStandaloneSilentSetup.exe installs for your account with no prompts. Add 32 or Arm64 to either name for the other builds. Each one carries the whole browser, so it installs with the network unplugged and you download it once for every machine. For a single PC on a normal connection, the Microsoft Store is simpler and keeps Brave updated.
How to verify the Brave installer before you run it
Microsoft’s winget repository records a SHA-256 hash for each Brave installer it packages. One PowerShell command turns that into a real check.
- Open the Brave.Brave manifest folder and select the version that matches your download.
- Open the Brave.Brave.installer.yaml file inside it.
- Find the InstallerSha256 line under the file name you downloaded.
- Open Terminal in the folder that holds the installer.
- Run Get-FileHash .\BraveBrowserStandaloneSetup.exe -Algorithm SHA256 , using your own file name.
- Compare the output with the manifest hash, character for character.
- Right-click the installer, select Properties and open the Digital Signatures tab to confirm a valid signature.
The Microsoft Store copy of the current 64-bit silent setup hashes to 21f06918b1ea5b89a4e0a78a6af432ed8fe8555fc2235ef15337f8097b7ce081 . A mismatch means the file is damaged or altered, so delete it and download again.
Which Brave download do you need for your Mac, iPhone or iPad?
Brave’s desktop browser for macOS comes from the Brave site. The App Store listing is the iPhone and iPad app.

On a Mac, run the file from brave.com and open Brave from Applications once it finishes.
The iPhone listing needs iOS 18 or later. Update the phone through Settings > General > Software Update before you retry.
Is Brave Browser free?
Yes. Brave Browser is free to download and free to use, with no trial period and no licence key. The Microsoft Store lists the price as Free, and the browser’s source code is released under the Mozilla Public License 2.0. The one paid extra is Brave Firewall + VPN, a subscription on desktop and mobile that starts with a 7-day free trial at account.brave.com. The ad and tracker blocking, including on YouTube, is built in and costs nothing. Any site selling a Brave Browser licence or a “premium” installer is selling something Brave gives away.
How to check your Brave version and update it
Brave updates itself in the background. A manual check shows your build and pulls the next one early.
- Open Brave and type brave://settings/help in the address bar.
- Press Enter.
- Read the version number shown on the page.
- Wait while Brave checks for and downloads any update.
- Select Relaunch when it appears.
- For a winget install, run winget upgrade Brave.Brave in Terminal instead.
Windows lists Brave in Installed apps with the Chromium major version in front, so a number starting 153 is Brave 1.95 on Chromium 153.

Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 fall below the Store’s Windows 10 floor. Windows 10 itself reached end of support on 14 October 2025, so a Windows 11 PC is the safer home for any browser.
Fix Brave Browser not installing on Windows 11 or 10
Find the symptom or error code you saw and work down its list. The codes are the ones Brave’s installer returns to winget.
Error -2147219416: Brave is already installed
A copy already exists for this user or for the whole PC, so the installer stops.
- Run winget upgrade Brave.Brave to update the existing copy instead.
- Or open Settings > Apps > Installed apps and check whether Brave is listed.
- Uninstall that copy first if you want to switch between a per-user and machine-wide install.
Error -2147219440: installation cancelled
The installer was closed, or the User Account Control prompt was declined.
- Run the installer again and select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- On a work PC without admin rights, run winget install Brave.Brave –scope user .
- Or install from the Microsoft Store, which needs no administrator rights.
Error -2147218431 or -2147024809: invalid parameter
A switch passed to the setup file is one it does not accept.
- Remove any custom switches from your command or script.
- For a silent machine-wide install, pass only /silent /install .
- Or run winget install Brave.Brave –silent and let winget supply the switches.
The download stalls or fails partway
A small web installer needs a steady connection for the whole install.
- Open the Brave releases page on GitHub.
- Download BraveBrowserStandaloneSetup.exe , or the 32 or Arm64 version for your PC.
- Run it. The standalone setup needs no connection while it installs.
The Store will not install Brave on an old PC
The listing requires Windows 10 or later.
- Press Windows + R, type winver and select OK.
- Upgrade to Windows 10 or 11 if the window shows an older version.
- Retry the install once the upgrade finishes.
How to uninstall Brave Browser and remove its data
Removing the app and removing your profile are separate steps. Keep the profile if you plan to reinstall.
- Close every Brave window.
- Press Windows + I, then open Apps > Installed apps.
- Select the three dots beside Brave and choose Uninstall.
- Confirm with Uninstall and let the uninstaller finish.
- Or run winget uninstall Brave.Brave in Terminal.
- To erase bookmarks, history and passwords too, press Windows + R, enter %LOCALAPPDATA%\BraveSoftware and delete the Brave-Browser folder.
- On a Mac, quit Brave and drag Brave Browser from Applications to the Trash.
