Firefox Javascript JITs engine, codenamed (Warp) received a major update and is enabled by default in Firefox Nightly to bring a speed boost to the browser. Version 83 also brings WebRender to Intel Gen12 GPUs.
What is Warp? How it improves Firefox’s performance or memory
Warp or WarpBuilder is Mozilla’s project to improve JavaScript performance and memory usage in Firefox.
The Spidermonkey (JS) team has worked on to bring a significant update to Warp.
Warp features
- Simpler design
- Supposed to improve responsiveness and page load performance
- The speedometer is observed to be 10% faster with Warp
- The JavaScript engine uses less memory when Warp is enabled

Enable or disable Warp in Firefox browser
- Visit about: config
- Click “Accept the Risk and Continue”
- Search for “javascript.
options. warp” and change its value to true.
Warp is available in Firefox for Android Nightly also. Visit about: config and toggle the above pref value to true.
“Warp improves performance by reducing the amount of internal type information that is tracked, optimizing for a broader spectrum of cases, and by leveraging the same CacheIR optimizations used by last year’s Baseline Interpreter work,” said Jan de Mooji, working on Spidermonkey at Mozilla.
Chrome uses the JavaScript engine v8, while Apple has a Nitro engine, Firefox uses the JavaScript engine, Spidermonkey.
So Warp will further improve Firefox’s Spidermonkey.
Show or hide Firefox bookmarks toolbar w/ Ctrl+Shift +B shortcut
Finally, you can now able to hide or show the Firefox bookmarks bar with Ctrl+Shift+B keyboard shortcut (Windows and Linux) like in Chrome.
The shortcut works in normal and Private windows. On macOS, you can use the shortcut Cmd+Shift+B.
After Print Preview, Mozilla has also switched to tab modal for HTTP Authentication prompt dialogs.
