Both Microsoft and Google use their web properties to promote Chrome and new Microsoft Edge. The pop-up ads that users receive on Google services and Micorosft websites are the worst and they’re very annoying.
Recently we’ve reported Bing is aggressively promoting Edge by showing advertisement at the bottom on its search results page with a message to Download the new Microsoft Edge.
The popup appears in all popular browsers on Bing including in the Edge browser also. Users reported about this on Reddit and Edge Insider forum.
One user in the Edge forum thread says “Get the new Microsoft Edge” popups are annoying and interfering with workflow.
He says Microsoft fails to detect Edge Chromium is installed and running despite “Diagnostic & feedback settings” set to Full.
The reported user says showing the popup in Edge is “unbelievable”. Microsoft Edge insider further warns Microsoft is shooting itself in their foot and marketing folks should take care of this.
Recently, a Redditor asked on r/MicrosoftEdge to “Disable Download new Microsoft Edge to get the best of the web” in FF/chrome”.
In both threads, Microsoft Edge folks accepted the user’s outrage and said the Marketing team is looking into the issue.
“Thank you for bringing this attention to our attention here. We’re really sorry to hear these notifications are compromising your browsing, especially while using Microsoft Edge! This is certainly not the experience we’re aiming to provide and we take reports like this seriously, especially when coming from one of the long-term insiders.” said Microsoft Program and Community Manager, Fawkes.
“We do work closely with the Marketing team, so I will pass this along to them. In the meantime, it would be helpful if you and any others who see this can submit feedback and diagnostic data through the browser”. Fawkes added.
What’s happening now is the popup is no longer appearing in Edge on Bing, but it is still showing up in Firefox and Chrome browsers.
