Yesterday, we’ve reported tab context menu changes happened to Chrome, landed in new Microsoft Edge browser, to our surprise, Microsoft has re-added “Close other tabs” and other options that removed in Chromium to their Edge browser, you can see the change if you now right-click on a tab in latest Edge Canary build 78.0.268.0.
This states the changes landed in Chromium won’t necessarily be part of Edge Chromium, as Edge team can revert and re-include those features if they wish.
We can mention another instance, recently, Global Media Controls have been enabled by default in Chrome v78 Canary, which Edge Canary inherited from upstream and the feature is enabled by default, later, the company disabled GMC and added flag to edge://flags page for the interested users to try out media controls.
In case you don’t know, here is what happened:
Google has removed Close other tabs and other tab context menu options in Canary, the changes also appeared in Edge Canary, but those lasted for two days, Microsoft has added the options back to Edge browser again. So these options in the new Edge tab context menu aren’t affected: New Tab, Close other tabs, Reopen closed window and Add all tabs to the favorites.
What’s your take on these developments?
