Multiple Tab Selection comes to Firefox 62

Mozilla now allows to select multiple tabs in Firefox browser by using the Ctrl key. The feature targeted for Firefox 62, needs user to visit about:config in the address bar and create a new preference and turn it on for testing. Multi-selected tab context menu allows user to perform various actions such as mute or close selected tabs, bookmark, reload, Pin and Move them to new Window and send the selected tabs to the synced device to access later.

Enable Multiple Tab Selection feature in Firefox

  2. Right click and create a new Boolean preference browser.tabs.multiselect and set its value to true.

Do note, tabs multi selection doesn’t work when the feature isn’t set in about:config.

Here is how the multi-tab selection feature supposed to work

Clicking a tab by holding Ctrl/Cmd adds the tab to multi-selected tabs list and that tab’s text turn to bold to tell the user that tab is in the multi selection collection. Clicking on the same tab with Ctrl button removes the tab from multi selection.

Opera Tab menu and multiple tab selection come to Firefox

Remember Opera’s Tab menu that shows recently open and closed tabs, and recently added multiple tab selection feature in Opera 52? This almost looks the same.

Look at the proposed context menu for tabs with multi-select functionality and new Tab Manager (Previously known as Overflow menu) below that will be permanently visible and displays all current windows and tabs including synced devices.

We’re able to create the preference and select multiple tabs with Ctrl key and the selected tabs text turned into bold as you can notice in the first screenshot, but we can’t get the feature to work on latest Nightly build, seems the feature isn’t landed fully.
