Google Drive Suggestions in Omnibox feature is no longer tied to Chrome sync. Google is removing the sync requirement and making Omnibox Drive Suggestions available “when all other requirements are met”.
Recently, we reported that Google has decided to remove the “Show Google Drive Suggestions” setting in Sync, as it felt former and “improve search suggestions” settings shouldn’t coexist.
Google has stated that users can use the “improve search suggestions” setting available to disable all server-side suggestions including Google Drive.
Following up with “Omnibox Google Drive Document suggestions don’t require separate setting”, the Chrome team has readied the flag “Omnibox Google Drive Document Suggestions don’t require Chrome sync”.
Enabling the above two flags in Chrome will result in the removal of the Drive Suggestions setting and the browser will ignore the Sync state when it is enabled.
What’s your take on this? Do you use Omnibox Drive Suggestions in Chrome? Let us know in the comments below.
Final words: Chrome sync no longer needs to be enabled to get Google Drive Suggestions in Omnibox. If you do not want Omnibox Drive suggestions, you can toggle off the “improve search suggestions” setting, which disables all server-side suggestions.
