
The 3-dot menu in Google Chrome is undergoing massive changes for ” Refresh 2023″ when compared with current iteration, it is big and fills most of browser window browser when open.
In case you missed it, Google is modernizing Chrome across OSes with Material Design 3. Chrome on desktop is getting a new design with name ” refresh 2023″. Apart from whole Chrome UI, menu included in it, is getting big UI upgrade, here are the details on it.
Chrome 2023 Refresh brings new menu
From the menu, you can notice respective menu items have received icons.
New Menu items introduced with Chrome refresh 2023 in 3-dot menu are:
- Google Password Manager
- Translate
- Save and Share
- Profile name
With Chrome 114, Google rebranded Password Manager as Google Password Manager. You can read more about creating shortcut to it here and installing as PWA here.
Translate is the new option. Selecting the option on foreign page activates the Translate bubble dialog in address bar.
New “Save and Share” menu includes Save Page as and Create Shortcut shortcut options, these were previously available under “More Tools”.
The 3-dot menu display user profile name when signed into Chrome browser.
Other changes in Chrome menu:
Bookmarks and Find menu upgraded into “Bookmarks and Lists” and “Find and Edit” sub menus.
Bookmarks and Lists includes Reading List options.
“Find and Edit” features, Find, cut, Copy and Paste menu items.
Cast has been moved into Save and Share Menu.
Menu items that aren’t changed:
New Tab, New Window, New Incognito Window, History, Downloads, Extensions, Print, More Tools, Help, Settings and Exit.
Its worth noting that, this may not be final design, changes may occur later.
Summary: Google is upgrading Application Menu or 3-dot menu in Chrome on desktop for 2023 design refresh. It is quite big and features icons and new menu items. The company has also reorganized menus and came with new ones. Since Menu is the most used as entry point to access and manage Chrome features, its a worth look and start getting used to it before Google makes it to public with a future update.
